Honestly I've always had the opposite impression without knowing the hitboxes. Octane seemed like the more well-rounded where Dominus was for popoff plays in the air and booming power shots.

If only you waited a day more to make this vid you could have seen kash use the dominus in every game in their top 4 run in rlcs europe. Was a real welcome to see.

Insanely high video quality, no doubt you'll make it big pretty soon. Love your work!

I took a break for a few years, and right before I stopped, you'd regularly see the Octane, Dominus, and the still very new Fennec. I preferred the Fennec myself, but getting back into the game now, I was surprised to see the lack of Dominus with the pros. I don't see Batmobile either, but that one was already on the way out. This helped explain why, but just makes me wonder why they're still making esports decals for it if it's no longer a staple

Great video! It made me realize I'm probably a dominus main in denial. Whenever I pick a car that's outside the standard fare (octane, fennec, dominus, batmobile, merc, breakout) I almost ALWAYS pick a car that has a dominus hitbox and end up playing very well with it (for a diamond/champ)! Masamune was even my original main car in my silver/gold days.

I told myself I'm allowed to use a trap beat in one Rocket League video, this is the one.
Do you like the Dominus?

One thing that I think is absolutely missed by so many people is the hitbox types beyond the actual dimensions. Turning circles, inclination of front and back wheels. Centre of mass. When these aspects are considered you can see additional strengths and weaknesses beyond the bounding box.

For example, only the Dominus and Breakout have front tilted hitboxes to the point of significance. This allows for easier rolling of the ball up onto the hit box and for flicking it forward.

The octance has a tighter turning circle through the slower and maximum speeds which is also significant when you consider the speed of direction changes the ball makes at the higher levels.

This is, in part, why the Hybrid is both brilliant and also mediocre. It has nearly the same height as the octance, nearly the same length as the Dominus and decent width. So in principle it should be the best of both worlds. But it doesn't have the front tilt of the Dominus, nor the turning circle of the Octane and its length can be counter intuitive when aerialling or riding corners on the walls.

The breakout, while it has the same front tilt of the Dominus, is higher off of the ground and flatter and is the longest hit box. This make it great for softer touches but a nightmare for 50's and a significantly different turning circle from the Octane which can put it at a disadvantage when up against the common hitbox type as it's weaknesses are amplified against the Octane.

The plank is the widest hitbox but also the flattest. It makes is very weak when 50'ing the centre of the ball against any taller hitbox type but very useful when trying to nudge the ball in the air due to its paddle like body. however it has so many weaknesses with turning circles, 50"s and controlling the ball without carrying it. It's lack of front inclination actually makes the likelihood of losing the ball from the hood greater.

The box/Merc hit box is actually far better than it gets credit for. Having a similar length to the Octance, albeit just a bit shorter, which in turn makes it the shortest hitbox. It's turning circle is very tight but it is also the narrowest hit box which makes it a bit more punishing for driving lines when attacking the ball or players. But it is a very accurate representation of its body when you consider the Merc visually. Akin to how closely the Fennec lines up with its own hitbox type in the Octane. The Merc is a hitbox that is visually reliable.

The Octane feels like the hitbox the mechanics were built and tweaked around and the fact that so many mechanical progressions and therefore tutorials are showcased with the Octane, makes it the go to car for many players to find familiarity and psychological success with.

GarrettG was a boss with the Dominus btw. He epitomised the optimum use of that hitbox on the grandest stage.

Great video man, sorry for the wall of text.

I mained this thing for 4-5 years (2015 player) what really made me switch to octane hitbox is the control you have with it. For dominus, your flicks go hard and high and generally your touches are not as consistent as with the octane. Additionally, it's much easier with the octane to take balls on the wall like catching them or guiding them because of the greatr height. With dominus you'd need to jump off already from certain heights while octane can preserve that jump a little longer. So it's really all about flexibility and control with the octane. I am currently using Takumi which is octane hitbox (Idk when they changed it but i could swear it used to be hybrid)

I think the main reason as to why pros are choosing Octane over Dominus (and why I do it), is the turn radius. It is much easier to adapt an octane on ground and in air to a sudden change of action ingame than it is for the Dominus.

That being said, I think you got a great narrator voice, great video regardless :), I subbed

I've been lagging a lot lately so switched back to dominus for shot power and prejumping defensively
