DO THIS NOW! **By February 26th, 2025 Amazon will discontinue support of the "Download & Transfer via USB" option** for its Kindle purchased e-books. This will remove your ability to download & backup your Kindle library, and it purposely makes it nearly impossible to move your library to another ecosystem if you so choose in the future.

HOW TO SWITCH FROM KINDLE TO EPUB (KOBO, BOOX, ETC)

Go to Amazon - My Orders dropdown - Your Content - Books - More Options

I have ALL my books from years ago downloaded that I bought from amazon because I KNEW this was gonna happen one day. These companies want to control the flow of info by not having you own the actual file.

"You will own nothing and you will be happy about it." Dystopian motto and goal! I gave up on KIndle when they started editing the content of the books I had bought.

It's like walking into Barnes & Noble, Buying a book and being told you can't take the book out of the store, you can only read it in the store, and on top of that, if they don't want to keep the book in store they will remove it and you won't be able to read it anymore.

Agree on Class Action Lawsuit. I hope someone can challenge this.

Here's the ugly truth: Amazon has never sold ebooks. What they've sold is a license to use the files, subject to conditions that can be changed by Amazon at any time. You may have noticed they're now explicitly stating this on book pages. Those impossible to read terms you scroll down and click "I agree to this" without actually having read it is still legally binding. Does it stinks? Yes. Is it unethical and immoral? Yes. Is it legal? Sadly, yes.

First Jeff raises the Prime/year price (poor guy needs another yacht) and now this. I called Amazon/Kindle today and asked how to download MY books to my PC. Guess what, they hung up on me three times. Reminds me when Apple tried to stop iPhone users from jailbreaking their phones. Apple went to court and the court told Apple that the customer paid for the phone they could do whatever they wanted. Hence, the jailbreaking users were in hog heaven. I totally agree with you; something needs to be done. Amazon is getting out of control, IMO. Nice job, Kristina. 🙂

There are many people on here, including myself who have no idea how to do this, and rather than just warn us, it would be more helpful if we could have a step by step on how to use Calibre to transfer all our books.

This has been going on for ages. The ultimate goal is to get people to own no physical media and have to pay for everything, every time you watch/read/listen/view 'content'. It's also easier to manipulate the information, changing things to suit whatever the people in control want. I download and locally store EVERYTHING.

This is the second one I watch on this topic. Unbelievable! I will download my books tomorrow morning. In Germany nobody speaks about this at all.

I just downloaded my 410 Kindle books. It took a bit over an hour to do, as one has to download one at a time. This is a trend that proves we are becoming a society where we don't own anything, we just rent everything in perpetuity. Movies and TV shows purchased on Amazon stay there until Amazon decides to unilaterally remove any digital content purchased therein. For this reason, I have started buying physical media (movies and TV shows) and putting it on my own media server in my own home. I own the show and can watch it when and wherever I want, without paying for a dozen streaming services so I can watch a particular show. Yes, there is original cash out of pocket, but it is a one-time purchase, not a perpetual streaming charge, every month for life. I now have about 10 years and counting worth of media stored, that I own. I calculated it would take over 10 years to watch everything on my media server if I streamed 8 hours a day, every day, and I own it all, with no "rental" or "streaming" fees.

I have to say that this video is a life saver. Thanks a Ton Kristina for your care and sharing this with us. I did convert all my books to EPUB 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 otherwise I wouldn’t be able to read my books on other devices.
