Today I "UNBOX" a Stihl MS 500i and test it out by doing some light cutting for a couple tanks of fuel.

When I was younger, in my teens in the eighties, I started my dad's Poulan chainsaw the same way as you did. I was much stronger at that time than I am today. No, for many years. Yes, I continue to have all my fingers and limbs. I had so much fun using it to cut wood on the farm my family lived on. That property was sold possibly more than 5 years ago. Dutch people currently live there. I have so many interesting stories from that place.

Well I just purchased the Stihl ms400 CM chainsaw. I asked my dealer about the 500i. I was told that he had no idea when he was going to get them in and not to take any orders for them. I told him to put me on the list anyways when I picked up the ms400 c. That was 3 months ago. Keep up the great videos my friend Piqua Ohio here.

I love the 500. We have a 660 mag at work and the 500 rips so much faster. Even with a freshly sharpened chain on the 660.

If I didn’t do all my own maintenance and repair, I would have bought a 500i. I believe they are a great saw. I just like the basic carb set up of my 661 Mag. If firewood/tree was my main income, I would own one.

In the words of BBR, standup and buck!

Cheers.

P.S. please clean up the cans before the wind makes them someone else’s problem.

Sweet video! I was able to get ahold of one of these 500’s on Black Friday for 1200 USD.

Saw a few comments on here about breaking saws in. I asked the dealer when I got mine and they said just make sure it’s warm and then get it into some bigger hardwood and keep it loaded. Broke mine in on 18” plus ash.

The only issue on my 500i was the lack of oil to the bar. I pushed the stop pin down on the oil pump and drilled out the oiling holes in the bar to the size on my 201 as the bar was running very dry due to the oiler holes blocking up constantly.

Love my 500i ... I'm currently running a 24 inch light bar but I wanna get either a 28 or 32 inch light bar..My back can't take bending over anymore so it's stand up and buck time for me...
Best of luck with the new saw and Merry Christmas

Not to be negative here, but those boots are not great for this job. One slight touch and those rubber things are gone to the skin. Also a big round falling accidentally on your feet would crush your foot. The tops need to be sealed so you're not walking in fine dust packed into your socks all day. Nice saw though. Good exercise.

I just bought one. So far, I've cut up about a third of a logging truck load of Doug fir. The 500i is okay, but it's balky when restarting after use, which I hate. Not sure this saw is any better than my two beloved 044 Stihls that I logged with in the '90s. Not super impressed, yet.

Breaking a chainsaw in from brand new is an easy process you take it easy for the first couple of tanks of gas about 2 to 3 tanks of gas you give it about half throttle through the log 🪵 and let the engine warm up before you start cutting that’s what we did when I got my MS 261cm about a little over five years ago but I guess every process is different but that is what we did on my saw

The $500 I cannot be the Makita '79 00 that's the truth this is the most overpriced saw for steel compared another German style of really quality they can walk the crap out of this song people out there I can do it I don't care about both sides I like them both but I do one thing in life price praise praise he's the 7900 is cheaper than $100 in the do this as a German saw it is people have to understand something life the truth
