Stihl is and always has been about cutting edge design and technology advancement. This saw, despite the performance characteristics, is also about complying with existing or future emissions requirements. I applaud them for bringing this to market now, in order to do extensive field testing and validation early rather than late, when everyone else will be playing catch up. Myself, I've had Stihl saws in our family for at least 30+ years. All of them are still running wonderfully. I'd love to add one of these to the collection.

still using mine and its still is working fine and I have had it since September 2020 using it off and on mostly during the winter months. I have been using it in almost 100 degrees F and it works very well the saw runs hotter but it runs as good as when it runs when its cold outside. The only problem I have had with it is the airfilter sucks up fine saw dust due to the airfilter not seating properly if your not careful that will destroy your chainsaw. I left a review about it on there website after I first noticed the problem but the man who sees all reviews refused to post my review and even went on to say he did not believe me even though he had never field tested one him self very unprofessional if you ask me. I have soled this problem no thanks to Stihl by putting some food safe vending machine lube at the base of the airfilter and now its not sucking up anything so if you buy one just be aware of this problem. I am ranting but sorry when you pay almost 1500 dollars for a chainsaw I get frustrated when something like this happens the reason we buy brand new chainsaws is so we don't have to worry about little things like that and it is equally as frustrating when someone who hasn't even touched one says he does not believe you and then refuses to post a legitimate review because it may hurt the sales of a saw that has a serious problem and instead of looking into it they chose to ignore it. So ranting aside I would still buy one its has been my go to saw ever since I bought it I was use to the ms 390 before I got the ms 500i its only a little bit more heavier but not much and its extremely powerful and extremely fuel efficient as far as long term use only time will tell.

I bought a 2nd one I like the saws so much. 1st one still runs like new after a year running every day for hours cutting firewood

Never would I've thought unit injection technology be implemented on chainsaws. The concept is sound and interesting, but how will it hold up in the field?

So happy with my 500i. I have a wcs BarkBox on it and performs really well. Just bought a brush cutter fs45c and really happy with too. Good job Stihl

My old 440 STIHL had a bar issue while I was working to clear several large trees. A coworker let me use his 500i for two days. I knew after the first day that I needed to upgrade to the 500i. The power is very, very good. I bought my new STIHL 500i today. It is an expensive saw for sure but I know how it performs.

No more gummed up carburetor problems. Although Stihl chainsaws have really good carburetors that will allow the saw to start and run even after years of sitting in storage with old gas in it. I have an MS 230 always started and ran with old fuel after years in storage.

Ain't broke don't fix it, it's an old saying.... I think this is where reliable becomes un reliable, I hope I'm wrong as I've always used stihl.

I just got one of these and I'm going to make sure to run the fuel tank dry each tikle I use it as the time can be months between use and 2 stroke gums up things.

I don't know if it will stand the test of time (this new fuel injection system), but it sure can't be worst than the Husqvarna 5th generation electronic carburators [ ... 550xp, 562xp, 572xp, ... ] crap !!!

In my experience, small soldered wires don't do well over time with vibration. I have a feeling these will develope a reputation for things coming loose and shutting you down with no warning, at an inopportune time
