One Month of Muay Thai in Thailand Newbie - How to Find Best Gyms in Thailand, What's Training Like

Forgot to add the segment about taking a fight with no experience. Talked with PJ and a few other trainers on the subject. Basically if you're in good shape and can learn quickly then doing one month of hard training(twice daily) you can take an amateur fight(no elbows, no kicks to the head). Three months is plenty of time to train for a fight. Just tell your trainer that you intend to fight wherever you train and they'll work with you to make sure you're ready and set things up. It helps to train with a gym that has connections(most of them do). For example PJ is a commentator in the local Krabi fight scene and so he can get you fights easily. The competition is most fierce around Bangkok and the fights down south are "easier". There's always a Muay Thai fight going on in any large to medium sized city. In Krabi there was a fight every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Phuket has a fight almost every night of the week. So getting one isn't too hard. Met lots of people training for a fight, lots of first timers, it's a great goal and great motivation!

You know, this concept of fitness tourism, boot camps in a tropical paradise… is absolutely brilliant. Healthy too

I'm so happy I found this video on New Year's as I contemplate my life going forward. My mother, who is from Thailand died a few years back, and I never had the chance to take her on a trip with me to her country of birth.( I was born/raised in California, and still reside in USA) I've never recovered mentally from her sudden passing, and think a planned trip of a month or two, while training in Muay Thai would be a way I could honor her life, and the person I've become because of her. I can't believe it took me so long to try Youtube to find out how I'd go about doing this until I stumbled upon your video ! Thank you so much for doing this, it has answered my concerns with general costs, the type of gyms, how to go about doing it, and if a total beginner would be welcome to train with private instructor vs group setting. I wish you nothing but health, wealth, and general prosperity and happiness from 2024 on

I trained with PJ in Krabi, he is very into people correct techniques, it’s great for beginners. The gym is small and he is very focus on you. Every day I trained with him in the morning, get myself fully sweat and went back to the hotel have a shower jumped into the pool, looking at the beautiful cliff . It’s one of the best/ memorable holiday for me

Nice video! I'm glad that you recommended the authentic/local type gyms over the popular (and generally overcrowded) commercial gyms. I myself did 1 month of training at a busy commercial gym and gained very little. I switched to a quiet, local gym and immediately made lots of progress. Online reviews can be misleading (the people have only ever tried 1 gym so have no point of reference) or perhaps they're written by people with very different goals for their training. Turn up in person and gauge from there.

I was just watching your through hiking videos then was really surprised to see you in Thailand. This is a very informative video. I’ve always wanted to train Muay Thai myself but didn’t know much about it.

All really great advice in finding a quality gym and trainer for a combat sports enthusiast. Thanks so much, in covering Thailand- home of one of the greatest and oldest traditional combat sport. Plus, a great place to see awesome fighters and fights hosted by One Championship! 😮😊

You are one amazing man! I love that you are doing so many exciting things with your life. This was a great video - I admire your fearless attitude about going to a foreign country and finding these gyms and diving right into your purpose. I would of got side tracked with the culture and definitely would have wanted to taste test all that food. I really have enjoyed your Relentless videos and I hope there are more to come. Keep enjoying your life and thanks for including us in on some of it!

Great video, I’m doing a similar experience.
I agree the smaller gyms can feel better.
I’m going to Krabi soon so I’ll be sure to check out PJ Muay Thai

This is a great video, very genuine and real review from a real person. Just wondering if PJ's gym is gonna be booked out solid now following your video...! I am considering a trip to Thailand to do a bit of a fitness sabbatical.

Thanks for the reminder not to go to big gyms. Was looking online for some training in thailand and it looked so not personalized. Best experience ive had in thailand was finding an off the beaten track little muay thai gym and i have been looking for a similar experience.
Great advice from you thanks

This is so helpful! I greatly appreciate this video and how detailed you were with explaining your journey. My husband is in his late 30s and wants to go to Thailand for roughly a month to do Muay Thai training!

I practice an Indian Martial art which is very new: SAV - Sanatan Ajey Vidya (You would hardly find any Information about it on the net) which is inspired from martial arts like: Wushu, Boxing, Muay Thai, kick boxing, Kalaripayattu and Marmakalai.. and Our Guruji (Instructor) is also very playful and rarely gets angry... And that is actually a very good practice...
