How to Remove Copper Undertones from Gold Filled Jewelry

This video shows an easy, cost effective way to remove copper from gold filled metal after it has been heated. This method can also be used for brass.

Use 2 parts white distilled vinegar to 1 part hydrogen peroxide. Let the piece sit for at least 30 mins. This method can be used with stones already set in the piece. Polish afterwards in a tumbler for a high shine finish.

This worked beautifully for me when while heating my brass it turned copper colored! It was a mixed metal piece so wanted the contrast of brass to copper. Thought I ruined the piece and no matter the sanding and polishing I could not remove it. This mixture was a miracle! Thank you for sharing❤

I tried this with my Windblown Jewelry necklace and I-AM-BLOWN!!! I thought I was going to be disappointed at how copper my necklace has turned and how much of a waste of money my necklace was but after doing this, it’s like my necklace was new again. THANK YOU!!!

This was super helpful, thank you for creating this video! However, for some reason, it does not work with very fine (0.6mm) gold-filled chains. I soldered several, but they all had a pink tone popped out where the heat was. And since these are chains I can't even put them into my tumbler to see if it would make any difference. I polished them carefully by hand but made no difference. Has anyone else experience this issue and have any tips?

I've found that if I add hydrogen peroxide to my pickle pot and place my gold-filled jewelry in there while it's hot for 10 minutes, I get the best results. No longer than 20 minutes because it will disintegrate the piece.

I have this gold coin charm that I got from Florida and I noticed blue and copperish pink tones rising to the surface, I scrubbed it with a toothbrush under warm water and it didn’t work. I was getting irritated as that charm means a lot to me. I’m gonna try this.

Hey! I tried this method with my 14k gold ring. I soak the ring in it for 35minutes and after it becomes even worse. The pink color exposes to new areas.. Any ideas how could I solve this problem??

Hi, would you suggest leaving it in the solution longer if there are still copper undertones after 30 min?

What's the ratio for the baking soda & water?

Will this work on fake silver jewelry? I have a few cheap silver filled rings that have turned copper and can't get it out. Already tried the baking soda and the toothpaste method...

I have a piece that was turning copper so I soaked it in vinegar and water and that actually made it worse. Would doing vinegar and hydrogen peroxide do the same thing or is their some reason to think it would be better?

Would this work with a solid 9ct chain that’s a little rosy in colour? Trying to make it look more yellow. Thanks!

And also! Do you have other ways you polish besides using a tumbler?
