What Happens If You Fall Into Quicksand?

The reason you don't normally sink into the sand when you go to the beach is due to a physics phenomenon known as force chain. Basically, when a bajillion grains of sand are jammed together in one place, their weight gets distributed over a large area, keeping you and your camels safely above ground. But if any water happens to seep up from underground, it mixes with the sand to create a surface that looks solid, but isn't...

First full view of the video..
Summary : you can't submerge fully in quick sand. You can stay in quicksand for 6 hrs max. You can try to get out by widening urself, getting rid of heavy items and using a stick as leverage. But the force involved in getting out is equal to that of lifting a small car. You u might incur nerve damage or lose a limb. Whatever u do, don't panic for all that movement only makes u sink deeper in quicksand..

Contrary to what is often depicted in movies and popular culture, falling into quicksand is generally not as dangerous or life-threatening as it's made out to be. Quicksand is a mixture of sand, clay, water, and silt that becomes highly viscous when disturbed. Here's what typically happens if you fall into quicksand:

1. Floating: When you step into quicksand, you may start to sink, but you won't necessarily keep sinking all the way to the bottom. Due to the high viscosity of the mixture, your body is more buoyant in quicksand than in regular water. You'll typically float on the surface to some extent.

2. Slow sinking: If you are sinking, it's usually a slow process, and you'll only sink until you reach a point where the buoyant force equals your weight. This usually means that you'll sink up to your waist or chest.

3. Inability to move: The main danger of quicksand is that it can trap you by making it difficult to move your legs. This is because the mixture resists any rapid movement. Attempting to pull your legs out quickly can create a vacuum, making it even more difficult to free yourself.

So, while it's unlikely that you'll sink all the way under and disappear, quicksand can still be dangerous if you panic or don't know how to react. Here are some tips for dealing with quicksand:

1. Stay calm: Panicking can make the situation worse. Take deep breaths and stay as calm as possible.

2. Lean back: Try to float on your back if you can. This will help distribute your weight over a larger area and make it easier to stay afloat.

3. Slowly move your legs: Gently and slowly wiggle your legs to create space and allow water to flow around them. This will help reduce the suction effect.

4. Call for help: If you're unable to free yourself, call for assistance from someone nearby. If there's no one around, use your phone if you have it to call for help.

5. Keep your upper body as still as possible: Moving your upper body too much can cause you to sink deeper, so try to keep it as still as you can.

Remember that real-life quicksand is not typically as dangerous as it's portrayed in movies, and with the right approach, you can usually extricate yourself or get help without major risks. Nevertheless, it's always wise to exercise caution when exploring unfamiliar or potentially hazardous terrain.

I used to play on the quicksand as a child and play with my feet up to my knees in it. It took about five minutes to get it up to my knees and then I pulled myself out. Around our house, we used to fill lowlands or pits with river sand and pipe the sand in with the water(we call it dreser). So it would have been smuggled. We guys used to help ourselves out if we got stuck a little too hard. I was 10 or under and you guys here call it so terrible. Btw I live in Bangladesh
