Painting Sunflowers with Yarn! Van Gogh's Work and Letters as Inspiration; Calming art process

Welcome to Fibrescapes! My name is Shelley Birkholz. I'm a Canadian artist inspired by nature's stunning beauty, and I paint with yarn!

In this video, I begin work on a yarn painting of sunflowers called: "Significance of Being", 20" diameter. I read passages from van Gogh's letters to his brother, and share how his words are helpful in my own art practice.

Excellent! Your reading of Vincent’s words over your art-making was very moving. He also painted in words, didn’t he? While I watched you make Wildness Blooms, I thought your work resembled Van Gogh’s. The swirls are inherent with yarn, yes? The swirls made me think of Starry Night. Your videos are amazing. Hi Shelley, your yarn art is lovely. So glad I found your channel. I have soooo much yarn (I crochet, knit and weave) but I’m going to try some yarn painting now! I was wondering if you ever yarn painted on canvas rather than wood? Also I’m interested to know what kind of glue is your favorite. Thanks for sharing your process.
