Don't Get The Wrong Overdrive Pedal! | Thomann

First I thought every overdrive pedal has "a certain sound" and it's that simple. Then I tried that one pedal through different amps and I was shocked by how different it sounded. This was many years ago but I still find this fascinating. What's also unbelievable is how many forget about the importance of finding a good pedal-amp combination. Enjoy the video!

it took me many years of experimenting and lots of wasted money to learn this. kris summed it up perfectly. match the mid characteristics of an amp with the pedal

I'm not sure where those short videos are coming from but I really enjoy them

Great info. I messed with the wrong od pedals for years... Then got a transparent od. Something clicked and I've not bothered with "green" pedals since. Pairs with a vox nicely

Really good advice! I figured this out with a Fender Bassman and a Vox AC30. I tried a tube screamer and a zen drive with both amps and figure out that the tube screamer sounds great with the fender and not great with Vox, and the Zen drive sounds great with the Vox and not so much with the Fender.

I would really like more examples of pedals in both categories.

Several years ago I found a Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret that mimics the classic Marshall drive sound, but it has a switch that alters the tone between ‘60s and ‘70s. That little switch definitely works better one way on my Marshall, and better the other way on my cheap first amp. This is probably why.
The more recent versions of the “DLS” replaced the switch with a knob that lets you blend between both sides, but I like my older version.

I love my Goldenboy. I run it into a Marshall Jubilee. The mid option on the pedal really gives you a lot of control. That said, I thought that pedal’s full mid, bass and treble would make it ideal for fender amps. Apparently I was wrong! :)

No way, for such an important subject only 2 min video? So this is an announcement of a more extended version? If yes, I'm glad.

quick question - Bass amps and Watts - how much is enough to gig with? they go from 20w to 1000w. Who on earth needs 1000w for their bass amp?! Help me understand this, please!

Those sound to me like all would be good tones at the right context. Its just personal preference as I see it.

What OD would you recommend for a solid-state Crate GFX-212 from the early 2000s?

Kris, thanks for your video… but what if you like overdrive tones of your own amp ( Marshall ), but need more gain?

I get what Kris is saying, but where this loses me is with stacking. I don't wanna throw too many different mid ranges at my amp at the same time.

Omg I didn't know this for way to long

The Golden Boy has bass, middle and treble controls. Is it makes it suitable for most of the amps?

Are Matchless and Vox amps midrange amps?

Dang... and I literally just bought a goldenboy, and my rig is with a deluxe reverb. I know it has different settings though (the pedal), is there anyway around this? I'm still a noob with pedals
