Robin Antin has created countless girlgroups, the most prolific being the Pussycat Dolls. In 2012 she would attempt to revamp the group, but that would evolve into the girl group GRL, featuring X factor contestant Simone Battle.

Thank you for covering GRL. Simone was my step-sister and seeing the devotion she had for music and sharing her voice with the world has been my motivation to pursue my dreams. Words cannot describe her loss in mine and our family's lives, and I thank you for being respectful when covering her final moments. The industry is truly a wild world and sadly she got caught up in it. I miss her everyday but seeing these videos makes me smile as I know she was and still is loved. What I don't like about this era, is that the main messages to teenage girls, was that you can't be feminine or female empowerment, without being sexy. That kind of message messes with girls.

I absolutely loved GRL and they had so much potential. Simone was my favorite member so when she died, so did my interest in the group unfortunately. Ofc I listen to the first few songs after the lineup but I ultimately listened to other groups. RIP/LL Simone Battle 💗

I loved PCD as a kid, but even then their in your face sexuality never screamed girl power. It was more of 'sex sells and sells well'. Because yes, you can be sexy and powerful but guess what? You can drop the sexy and still be powerful. You don't need the sexy part. So in my eyes it was always more of 'sex sells' instead of 'powerful girls'.

Oh nooo! Simone Battle father was my substitute teacher in middle school and he was so proud of her! I followed her on Twitter and looked out since. This really hurt my heart I can’t imagine how he feel. MR.BATTLE I HOPE YOU’RE OKAY! 🫶🏽🦋

I was so shocked about Simone’s death. GRL was a breath of fresh air tbh & came out in the right era. I always loved their song vacation bc it was the intro to Remi Ashton’s vlogs & that’s how I found out about them. I loved their vibe it’s just unfortunate how the industry is so negative. I just went through a huge Girlicious rabbit hole too their first song was actually good. I don’t understand why they wanted them to be for young girls. I remember The Paradiso Girls too they literally had a song on shake it up lol that me and my sister used to love lmao
