As a young lad my family visited the Outer Banks several times a year. We’d rent a cottage at Nags Head, Hatteras or Ocracoke Island. It would be on stilts, as most are there. The wind would kick up and rock the whole cottage like a cradle at night. I remember the smell of Coppertone and the soft, warm sand underfoot while watching the sun set over the sound. Such sweet memories of a life well lived.
