Building up a new hardtail mountain bike... again!

Показать описание
In this video, we totally rebuild my hardtail, and then ride the whale tail for the first time without rear suspension. Overall, this build was quite rushed due to our need to continue filming for the other channel, but if you decide to build your own bike I recommend taking your time! A lot can go wrong on a mountain bike, and your safety depends on it.

This videos includes mentions, logos, and products directly associated with Diamondback bicycles, who is a sponsor of Berm Peak Express.

The following companies have sent me products for the video, with the understanding that they might get screen time. They are not affiliated with the channel as sponsors.

Oneup Components kindly send the EDC tool, handlebars, and stem for this build. If you would like an EDC tool and do not want to thread your fork, just wait for the adapter to come back in stock.

Wheels manufacturing sent over the bottom bracket and some spare derailleur hangers. Their website-based derailleur hanger and bottom bracket finder is actually one of the best such tools I've seen.

Crankbrothers sent me a set of pre-release Synthesis alloy rims to test out a few months ago and now that they're being sold to the masses I'm allowed to talk about them. These have been on my bike since January.

Thanks for sending this bleed kit, Truman! I currently have all my bleed supplies in an oily disorganized pile, so this was a welcome addition to the shop.

*Maintenance Hack: Make cable nipples out of solder* 2 cables for price of one!
Tested myself.
1)Drill a hole the diameter and depth of a typical cable nipple in a hardwood block.
2)Drill a slot half the depth of hole 1 and ensure that the slot feeds into the side of hole 1. This is for a cable to sit in.
3)Fill hole 1 with molten solder and plunge the cable through the slot and into the solder. After it has set remove from the mold and clean up edges. You now have a new nipple on your cable.
This is great when you buy a new cable that is super long, don't chuck the excess, make a new nipple for it and now you have 2 cables for the price of one!!
WEAR SAFETY GLASSES :)

Couple of top tips...
1. You can put the bottom bracket tool in the bench vice and the whole frame works like a lever. Its stays on the tool much easier, and is great for stuck bottom brackets. Takes the hassle out of it.
2. When doing anything that involves hitting the fork steerer tube, don't put the fork on the ground as it can damage them. Just hold the fork in the air by the steerer tube or under the crown and hit it, it will still work.

Love the heatshrink on the cabling, never thought to do that myself. I put heatshrink on the ends of my road bike bar tape though. Really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.

Hammer the star nut the other way with a long bolt. Works like a charm.

Well done video Seth. Your presentation was natural and made me feel like I was in the room with you. I like it better than a scripted presentation. You are developing quite massive collection of how to skills. You have high standards. It is clearly evident in everything you build and in you channel. Truly a professional.

I'll give you a hack: just push the starnut down with a broomstick instead of all those finnick methods you´ve tried. plus: using the broomstick method you'll be able to reuse the starnut.

I have a Sync'r Carbon due to arrive tomorrow! I've been watching your videos and The Singletrack Sampler's videos for years despite not having a trail worthy bike myself. That changes tomorrow so thank you and thank you to Alex for the inspiration!
