The Sex Pistols get kicked out of Jersey - 1977

In early 1977, The Sex Pistols were at the centre of a maelstrom of controversy. Unable to walk the streets of Britain safely, the band were desperate to escape the mountain of publicity. An attempt to visit Jersey failed, as local police escorted the band from the island within 24 hours.

This is the footage that a Channel film crew captured, minutes before the band boarded the plane out.

I just finished reading a book about Sid, written as a collection of stories about his life. And what i read in those pages gave me a deep inner sadness. I read about a 21-year-old boy, introverted, desperate for attention and love, immature and probably depressed. So he hid behind the figure of Sid Vicious, with the intention of finally being accepted and being "interesting" in some way that was not natural to him. He was playing a part, as an actor would. But he felt deeply alone. And then he got absorbed in his own character. It's a book i recommend (well, i'm italian, the title here is "A modo mio - La tragica parabola di Sid Vicious" written by Marco Di Eugenio, don't know if it's available worldwide). He wasn't different than a 21-year-old boy filled with anger and a desire to rebel, but he went too far. Like John Simon Ritchie wasn't enough for him, like he thought he needed Sid Vicious to feel better. In this video we get a glimpse of the real John. I like his smile. The smile of a young and sad boy who doesn't know how to save himself, but would like to.

It's a shame that they were treated so badly by the media in those days... Who would have thought John would be a perfect ambassador for the UK all these years later, and not forgetting the Kids party they threw at Christmas for the striking firemen and families that was not reported at the time, plus many many more charities that have benefited from their generosity. Always loved the music and how they changed history

From what I've seen of Sid despite having a shitty childhood he was a great laugh the absolute last thing he needed was Nancy coming along and telling him heroin was cool he already knew what it did to people but he was young and inexperienced and Nancy was anything but so the sex always gonna be hard to refuse

Sid didn't get to see much of life, did he ...wonder if he were here today what he`d be doing with himself? He would fit right in the music world today with all looks and no talent. I love sid don't get me wrong but his contribution to music was nowt. 40 years ago wow may he R.I.P crazy bastard didn't get time to grow up sad.
