Snape, as Headmaster, installed death eater Amycus Carrow in the role of professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts knowing that the position was cursed to sabotage the guy! Voldemort cursed the position so that everyone who occupied it would suffer some kind of cruel fate and serve just one year. Amycus was one of the most cruel death eaters, and Neville even claimed that he was worse than Dolores Umbridge. So it’s no wonder why Snape wanted him gone when the opportunity presented itself!

He needed to fill the Defence Against the Dark Arts post and of course Voldemort, and Snape by Voldemort's reckoning, would want a Death Eater in the post.

Actually, Snape may not have even known about the curse. He certainly didn't know why Dumbledore wouldn't give him the job. It's unknown whether Dumbledore revealed the curse to him before his death.

I just remembered that Amycus held the Dark Arts post, not Defence Against the Dark Arts.
