THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK (1997) MOVIE REACTION - FIRST TIME WATCHING - REVIEW

Welcome to my first time watching as we react to The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). Diving back into the world of dinosaurs there are a lot of elements to enjoy in this film, a lot of exciting sequences, suspense and of course jaw-dropping visual effects.

In "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," we follow Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) as he returns to a new island filled with dinosaurs. This time, he's not alone! With a team of adventurers, including Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn, they face off against prehistoric predators and corporate greed.

There was an improvement in the practical effects department which was already impressive and as close to perfection as you could get at the time. Any time we had a physical dinosaur on screen we were instantly overwhelmed with the same sense of awe. The effects in this one still hold up and somehow this film looks even better from a cinematography point of view.

We hope that you enjoy our reactions, commentary and review as we discuss the film's groundbreaking special effects, suspenseful storyline, and unforgettable characters. From the heart-pounding scenes of having two T. rex attack an RV simultaneously to seeing the velociraptor's agility as they coordinate an attack this movie, although not as incredibly good as the first one was, is a phenomenal time.

RIP to Eddie. Even surrounded by angry T-rex parents, he was still keeping his foot on the gas trying to save the others

The first Jurassic Park has themes of creation, this one has themes of parenting. It’s cool how it follows on.

There’s one scene in this movie that never fails to send chills down my spine. When Ian, Eddie, Kelly are up in the High Hide. And suddenly from the darkness you hear the trumpeting roar of the Tyrannosaur.

Just the look on Ian’s face says it all. He’s terrified. But still remains calm for his daughter and Eddie.

The guy who gets eaten by the T-Rex in San Diego was played by screenwriter David Koepp. He was credited as "Unlucky Bastard". He co-wrote the first Jurassic Park and many other movies, and he's writing the new Jurassic Park reboot and Spielberg's new alien movie.

I maintain the Baby T-Rex is one of the most impressive animatronics ever. It was free-floating, only needing a battery/radio receiver that was hidden in the actor's jacket.

I’m half convinced that Vince Vaughn was cast in this movie just so Goldblum had someone to stand next to without being 2 feet taller.

This film is John Hammond's (Richard Attenborough) last acting appearance in the series. He appeared as painting on walls a couple times since. He had intended to be in the fourth film but fell in his home in 2008 and retired from acting. He passed away in 2014, one year before the release of Jurassic World. A promotional website for Jurassic World revealed his character died shortly after the events of this film in 1997.

Jeff Goldblum has always been this strange mythical actor because he manages to play these badass characters but in real life he is the chillest, most eccentric, laid back dude with a mischievous quirk and a great sense of humor.
Love the dude.

Fun fact, the scene with the little Compies swarming and killing the electrocution ahole was put in there to pay homage to the original ending of the first BOOK where this happened to Hammond. Hammond was so much more evil in the book, and it was SO satisfying lol.

Malcolm said in the first movie that he has several kids.

Fun fact: In the Lego Jurassic Park video game, no human character died. All those people that were killed, eaten, torn apart by the dinosaurs... they all managed to escape somehow.

Another fun fact: That shot of the T-Rex destroying the bus was used in a commercial for car insurance.

The trailer sequence with the Rexes is phenomenal, easily one of the most nerve-racking and intense moments of the entire Jurassic Park series, and just film in general, from it hanging over the edge, Sarah landing on the window, the glass cracking, Eddie trying to save the group. It cranked up the tension and suspense that worked so well in first film up to eleven! It's expertly shot by Spielberg!

A lot of people hate this film, but I think this feeling comes from an unfair comparison with the first one. The first film is a milestone in the history of cinema, no sequel will come close. If we watch this film as its own product, it is excellent.

For those who went crazy like myself trying to find Spielberg's cameo credited as the "Popcorn Eating Man, " I'll spare you having to pull out your hair: Right after you first see Kelly, Ian and Sarah on the couch, watch John Hammond talking. You'll see Spielberg in the REFLECTION of the tv eating popcorn. When they cut back to the couch, it's over.

That bird's eye shot of the team moving through the tall grass and several shadows silently approaching them and leaving trails, the team can't see anything from their level but us audience see everything.... such a good shot that 25 years later "Prey" did a similar shot.

10:07, another deleted scene involved Roland Tembo getting into a bar fight with a rude tourist harassing the locals at a bar in Mombasa, teaching him a lesson. His friend Ajay Sindhu, asks Roland if he's interested in this expedition's quarry. Roland says, "Ajay, go up my ranch, take a look around the trophy room, and you tell me what kind of quarry you think could possibly be interest to me."

The baby t-rex was an actual fully functional interactive puppet that was programmed to move around by itself. They made it this way so the actors could have something to interact with, which is awesome. The actress who played Kelly, her reaction was genuine when seeing the puppet for the first time in that scene. 🦖

This movie is a lot darker than its predecessor, which one of the reasons why not everyone likes it, even the critics said that it was too dark and scary and too violent for the family audience and that's what makes this series great, it keeps you at the edge of your seat till the very where you breathe a huge sigh of relief and they all live happily ever after, until the next crazy adventure.
