I am not sure which is worse. The fact a technician actually spent the time it took to make a scanner which requires physical contact to make a scan. Or that a trained astronaut thought it was a good idea to physically interact with any flora or fauna on another planet that he knew absolutely nothing about.

I love how their super advanced space suits are just leggings or a surfers swimming suit. Then the astronaut they green lit to explore an alien planet just picks up unknown flora, and has to scan it with DIRECT contact with his suit.

Bummer. This exact thing happened to Harry Kim in Voyager. Must be a common thing in outer space. When I go to outer space I'm going to make sure I have a quality EV suit unlike that poor sod.

I lost the ability to suspend disbelief when the plant sample instantly grew dozens of times its size to entangle the man. Explorers will never be able to deal with hazards that are completely impossible.
