Looking back to the early days of SEO, marketers were focused on backlinks, keywords, and metatags, the on-page technical aspects. These on-page, technical aspects worked. Google's algorithm would determine traffic based on these aspects. Search engine optimization was totally technical-based. Marketers were creating content for the algorithm. They produced content for search engines and social media, not humans! The old SEO was unnatural and lead to bad marketing habits. Thus, why the old idea of SEO is a total and complete waste of time. So what should you be doing instead?

More important than technical aspects is engaging content. Content with a story. Content that touches the emotions and primal urges of the audience, and connects with people in an authentic, beautiful way. Content is the new SEO. Technical aspects are still somewhat important, but what's more important is good content. Creating awesome content is going to drive the most traffic.
