As a sim tuber, and since i used Odyssey, Odyssey+, oculus, vive, even as far back as the OSVR days, my money is with HP reverb. With my simracing it fits my specific use case, and with my 2080ti im SURE I'm still going to have issued running it in most titles. Really wanted the Oculus for the ASW and software, but i cannot step backwards in res.

Great video guys! Very interesting hearing all your opinions points view!

I wish more people would bring up the fact the the new rift S rebders the same size imagine as rift, do the clarity increase is from the subpixel not being pentile. MRTV has confirmed this. This should be the largest issue, not 80hz. Good job covering that. It might be the biggest issue with rift S. If we are able to super sample or push those extra rendering to the headset then I won't be mad about this headset anymore, as it would allow enthusiasts to at least get the actual clarity from the new screen.

I understand the design for main stream type products its just sad in my opinion that as a leader if not the leader they no longer have a high end product for those of us who want the best :(. I have been waiting for two years to get a new OCULUS product but sadly feel forced to go to another brand.

All this Rift S news is setting in and people are probably calming down. Remember folks, Oculus is not the only PC VR head set.

Oculus talk a lot about increasing the user base by providing low spec rift s but if they released a rift that was a clear upgrade then most active current owners would upgrade and pass on or sell their original rift to new users boosting the base as a whole.

It's not just about IPD, but also how symmetrical your IPD is. Anthony's 71+mm IPD makes him an outlier, but he's probably also having to contend with each eye not being equidistant from the center line of his face, so each eye would be coping with a slightly different amount of geometric(perspective) error, optical distortion, and pupil swim in an Oculus Go.

What about passthrough + for virual desktop apps so we can put our screens in there and be able to see our desks, keyboards, etc? I wonder if that would be a thing later on down the road. That's my biggest want. Kind of like what they did in the demo at OC5. Super excited for the early days of this feature.

Anthony's comment about Dead and Buried 2 looking like a Go game has me worried. The videos and clips we have from GDC look much better than the Go Dead and Buried game. I like it on Go, but I expect much more fron the sequel on Quest.

For me seated based playing almost exclusively on a Hotas, my IPD falls nicely within HP Revrbs parameters and just ordered another 1080ti-one for each eye. HP Reverb FTW, or wait for Acer OJO ^^.

The 499 Quest could include some proprietary headphones or something, and maybe a game. I'm definitely buying whatever it is

Just occurred to me, what if they took those extra side top and bottom cameras off of the Quest and S and put a pair of cameras on the controllers, giving them each their own inside-out tracking? I think blind spots would be completely eliminated (not sure how the bandwidth would work, though ... hope they wouldn't have to run a cable down each arm for that.)

Imagine: The Rift S with a phone compatible USB plug and Windows MR compatibility built in. Use it all all your platforms.
(PSVR Not included)

They don't want the Rift S to be or look the same due to mixed messaging. Also, the Rift 2.0 will most likely helm the look of its proper brethren. I am glad it's not the Quest with a cord. Also, cost. Anthony hit the nail on the head with subsidization. There is none for PCVR like there is for Quest. Period. Also I do think April 28th will be a Rift S release. It just makes a lot of sense.

I think the other point that is being missed in all this is how can oculus say this is not an upgrade and its not a headset for existing rift owners. We've invested hundreds of dollars in the platform on games etc and there's is no upgrade after three years. So we are stuck for another couple years on a low spec platform? Imagine switching to an Apple phone from Android and three years on Apple release the same spec hardware saying its a refresh not an upgrade. Hello McFly!

IDK. Perhaps Oculus didn't set expectations properly?

Gaming laptops and making for a high end more portable VR setup would benefit from the Rift S. It's not just static VR users. I think the Rift S is fine for what it is. It's not made internally so that means they're busy working on their own shit for later. It's a quick patch job. I bet Rift 2.0 is coming as early as next year.

For what it is and for the price none of the competitors they care about will get close to that.
