Class (01) = Metabolic Pathway | Introduction to Basic Metabolic Pathway

Metabolic pathway comprises a series of chemical reaction which occurs inside the living cell. The reactants, products or the intermediates which are formed as a result of enzymatic reaction are called as metabolites. There are two types of plant constituents obtained after metabolism
1. Primary plant metabolites
2. Secondary plant metabolism
1. Primary plant metabolites
These are considered as basic plant constituent. They are simple in structure and they don't have any biological o pharmacological activity associated with them . Primary metabolites are utilized by the plants for building up their body and responsible for physiological functioning of plant body. Example Starch, carbohydrate,cellulose, protein, lipid
The pathway and chain of reaction through which above mentioned compound are synthesized or produced in plants ar known as basic metabolic pathway
2. Secondary plant metabolites
The secondary plant metabolites are synthesized from primary plant metabolites. They posses marked pharmacological action on human body.These are also known as active constituent. the pathway by which secondary metabolite are synthesized is known as secondary metabolic pathway.
