This video provides an introduction to metabolism. Metabolism consists of two contrasting processes; 1. Catabolism and 2. Anabolism. Catabolism involves the degradation of complex molecules. The complex molecules are first hydrolyzed into building blocks. Building blocks are then converted into common product acetyl CoA, which then undergoes oxidation through TCA cycle to form ATP, CO2 and H2O. Catabolic reactions are oxidative, exergonic and require NAD+. Anabolism pathways synthesize complex biological molecules. Anabolic pathways are reductive, endergonic and require NADPH.

The following topics are covered in this lesson,

1. Catabolism
2. Anabolism
3. Exergonic
4. Endergonic
5. NAD+
6. NADPH
