I remember finding 1997 Wheels Magazines at my primary school fete, and they both had massive features on the VT Commo. I also bought a Mega Drive for $5. That was a good day.

Dude, you need to get more of these. there's a good amount of petrolheads who would like to see these Aussie cars.

Couple of things:

We had the Sigma Scorpion (Mtsubishi Galant Eterna in Japan) as the Plymouth Sapporo and wait for it...the Dodge Challenger. they actually decided to name it after the Challenger. then again, the Pajero Sport was called the Challenger in some countries. these were total drag racing fodder in the US and Puerto Rico.

then there was the fact they built these where the Magna would end up being made.

GM and its consequences were a disaster on the automobile industry regarding how they handled brands like Suzuki and Subaru besides Holden and Saab. trust me, we hate them for killing those two as well in the US.

Toyota came in even earlier in Australia with the Crown sedan back in the 50's to run on the Mobilgas rally. the Toyota Corona was known as the Tiara in America as well regarding that gen before the RT40 was sold as the Corona in America, it was their first successful car as they already worked most of the kinks out.

Mwaha cool! I have a opel monza what originally was a senator what the foundation was of that Holden commodore. The front of the commodore is the front of our senator because of the v6 and v8 in australia. But the rest is a opel rekord. They beefed up the front suspention and topmounts for the commodore because it had to stay in one piece for the australian conditions. In europe the domes/topmount construction of the front suspention was way to weak and most of those cars ended up on the scrapyard after 6 years. In extreme situations the front suspention smashed straight through the bonnet because of that damn rust 😂

I still can't get over the fact that Opel never gave us a proper V8 Maloo or Commodore. We had Vauxhall in the UK, but we never got a left-hand drive version of it. Even Pontiac had the GTO… I’m glad that Opel is French now, at least they are making nice looking cars
