Best Perennials for Sun - Malva Zebrina (French Mallow)

I planted from seeds.
I didn’t space them 2 feet apart .

Four came up. should I thin it out now and space them apart or wait until spring to see if they all last through the winter ) I live in Canada, so it gets cold.

Mine found a place under my dogwood tree. Not sure it's the best place considering all the dogwood drops but it seems to like it so far.

My garden backs on to farm land, the hedge/ ditch has several gaps, I’m wondering could I plant a mallow on this raised ditch? Thank you.
