Vehicle rank research penalties - War Thunder

Most people know that you get massive penalties if you use vehicles that are too far away from what you are trying to research but do you know the specifics? Did you know that even if you are researching a vehicle one rank below the vehicle you're using then you still get penalized?

Premiums are not limited by this system. Only if you research something of a higher rank of 2 so if you have a rank 6 premium you can research 7 but 8 gives penalty. But you can research lower tier vehicles with no penalty. If you have a tier 6 premium researching a tier 1 vehicle there is no penalty

I think it’s ridiculous that that’s even a system like “oh, you enjoy playing this vehicle and br and want to grind higher tiers out, here’s a 80% penalty for having fun”

The thing about researching a lower rank with a higher rank is that lower rank vehicles cost a lot less rp, and higher rank vehicles tend to get more rp per battle.

Welp as someone who only plays till 2.0 BR, I haven't finished a single Soviet tech tree after playing 6 years that tech tree exclusively.

This actually explains a lot. I never realized the penalties were this severe. I've had war thunder for a long time so I have vehicles the have moved around the tech tree in BR and there are tons of newer vehicles put in between and they're taking forever to unlock

i actually can understand why tiers 1 get penalty for trying to get tiers 3 but why the opposite is just beyond me, the worst is i know why they do that :PREMIUM TANK

Wow I just started really playing this game and really understanding how crews and the mechanics work but I haven’t ran into this problem yet I’ve been sticking within the two-tier rule

I remember I accidentally glitched the BR system for tanks, and I was trying to relive BR-2.7-4.0, not realizing that I forgot to pick another tank from ww2. I ended up pulling a maxxed out AMX-10RC. I folded everyone.

I’ve only been playing WT for about 2 years now and the SL and RP grind has become absolutely fucking horrendous. I can’t imagine how OG players feel about this shit now
