The modern variant of 'ifconfig' which will not work on macOS, BSDs and Solaris is 'ip addr show' or just 'ip a'. It is native to GNU/ Linux and has built in support for much more than just ip address manipulation. It can configure bridges/trunks/bonds, routing etc.
