Older lion cubs teach 'kids' not to bite Dad

The Rekero lion pride in the Maasai Mara has young cubs of a variety of ages. (To answer some questions, the older cubs are FEMALE and they still have the SPOTS that all lion cubs are born with.) These older female cubs will lose their spots as they become adult lionesses. It was fun to watch the older cubs watching the younger cubs get into trouble by picking on Dad, and then disciplining them in their own way. There is also a lot of interplay among the different aged cubs. Be sure to watch the “final straw” for Dad with the youngest cubs. You can almost see the older female cubs thinking “this could be interesting”!

Seen in September 2021 with guide Salaash Morompi. Some footage by Barry Miller.

I like how the lions just fall on top of each other to pass the time 😂

It’s actually amazing how patient this lion dad is with the cubs. He’s so chill with all the kids there, just relaxing in the heat of the day. And the older siblings are definitely schooling the little ones on their behavior! Guess it’s mom’s day out with the girls! Hehehe 🤭

0:40 love how he stood up, slapped his younger sibling and then straight up plopped down on the other sibling.

Love how the middle siblings are looking at the younger siblings with that "don't do it expression" 😂

I could watch this the whole day. So many silent conversations going on.

Social dynamics are fascinating.

Older Siblings: “Cut it out before Dad gets roaring mad”

Lion Cubs: “But I’m bored…”

The dad's presence is the best protection ever.. they feel so safe and secured, absolutely no one can mess with them 👑👑

Their tails are like, natural cat toys! No wonder the cub kept going after them.😁

It's crazy how clear their non verbal communication is. Also it's so beautiful to watch how brotherly love functions in prides of lions.

I’m in awe watching this. The older siblings are watching the cubs so closely and literally teaching them how to behave! I’ve never seen big cats interact like this ever.

No matter the species, a dad is always a dad

I just learned so much about lions from watching this. They look like legitimately bonded families. The dad looks like he's on the lookout to provide for the family and everybody else is enjoying each-other's company.
