Are Michelin X-Ice Snow tires really that good?

During a recent test of the all-new Michelin X-Ice Snow tires, Jill Ciminillo was able to pit both new and worn tires against some top competitors. The real question Jill answers is: Would she want these tires on her car in a blizzard?

It would make more more sense to do the test without knowing what tires were on the car. There are many factors that can influence opinion in such a test.

I drove through several intense winter storms and i never got stuck with these x-ice's ever that is how good they are. Compared to all seasons these tires grip the road and never gave me any ditch or braking problems in heavy snow or freezing rain. These tires will definitely keep you and your family safe just don't drive fast. Love these tires!

Most winter tires perform decent in fresh snow. None of these youtube channels test tires in real life scenarios where you have slush on asphalt

She started by saying that the Hakkapeliitta are good but he was influencing her by pointing out where they where slipping. I'm sure that the Michelin where slipping at the same place too but he wasn't nagging her about this.

Used the X-Ice 3s on my 2010 Chevy HHR through two and a half winters and two summers before I got rid of the car with almost a quarter inch of tread left - that's right I didn't pull them off in the summer. Here in Fairbanks Alaska we have around five months of snow and ice and I found these tires to be amazing. Prior to using the X-ice 3s I mounter Michelin Arctic Alpines (no longer available) and these tire were also amazing.

Did you compare the Michelin and Nokian in the deep snow roads? I'm more interested in knowing what tire will help me go through the unplowed snow in the morning of a snow storm. Some of us still do have to go to work every morning!

I'm Canadian and I'm familiar with cold, harsh winters. I can say that from what I can see: no steam coming out of her mouth when she talks, sticky snow on her toque, no gloves in her hands, etc., it was not a cold day at all when the video was shot which helped the performance of the tires in the test.

I wonder how they compare to the continental viking contact 7? I have the viking on my Honda civic and i can tell you they are awesome.

"I feel I wouldn't get in an accident driving these"
I hope so...Nokian are top of the market tires.

I've had the Michelin X-Ice new in 17 inches and I can tell these are not top winter tires. To me these are decent on ice for a non studded tire, but poor in deep snow and slush. Opinions are always based on comparison: if you had before only all seasons or a cheap winter tire, then of course the X-Ice will be a good improvement. Also if you only have few inches of snow, then it's a good tire. But for serious winter conditions in city parking in real deep snow, then these are not at the top of the list. If you want a very good non studded tire for ice, get the Blizzaks - but they are bad in deep snow and slush.

I wonder what the tire pressure was in both tires, you can easily get totally different results with different tire pressure.

being from Winnipeg this video really helped me. The Snow and temp.in QC are closer to what we have here in Manitoba .

I have both tires (Blizzaks on an Acura TL SH-AWD and X-Ice on a Honda Pilot AWD) and I concur with the impressions from the video regarding those two tires. They're both very good tires in the snow but the X-Ice is a little better and noticeably so on ice.

Guys, would you recommend x ice snow or pilot alpine 5? I live in Moscow Russia, bmw 530d xdrive .

Being that the X-Ice Snow is Michelin's new winter tire it would only be fair to be testing it against Nokian R5's or their Hakkapellitta 10's and the new Blizzak WS90's! To be testing it against the R3 and the WS80's isn't a fair test because those 2 tires would be a better test against Michelin's crappy X-Ice Xi 3's.

I’ve owned the original X-Ice and X-Ice 2. Just installed X-Ice Snow SUV. Expecting great results.

Well done I'm sold! Once my Nokian WRG4 SUV's are worn down this summer I will replace them with the Xice Snows. Thank You

I have owned both of these tires. Just remember, any snow tire is better than any all season tire. I currently have Nokian tires on my car, and just bought Michelin x ice for my wife’s Rav 4 hybrid. They were 30% off.😊

I love the way the engineer in the passenger seat is coaching the driver about how to review the tires. Lol

Actually, disappointed, by the way, he pointed at the note, at the beginning of his conversation. Like a reminder how to review the Michelin, lol.
