They are from Tulsa, Oklahoma and were mentored by Leon Russell. G.A.P. stands for Greenwood, Archer, and Pine, the three major streets going through the Black Wallstreet area of Tulsa. They were hugely successful a long list if hits.

"You Dropped A Bomb On Me" must be next! It's their best song and it's FIRE!!! Also from this genre, you absolutely must check out The Dazz Band, "Let it Whip."

Excellent! Fond memories of HS in the 80’s! “You Dropped a Bomb on Me”, “Outstanding”, and “Burn Rubber on Me” should also be on your radar by The Gap Band.

🛼 I remember everyone scrambling to the floor on Friday night at the rink when their song “You Dropped a Bomb on Me” started to play. Skating in the 70’s and 80’s with great music was my life.

The GAP Band is a must in every music collection !! Party Train & You dropped a bomb on me !!! On a side-note The GAP Band got their start due to fellow Oklahoman Leon Russell. Check out his song : A song for for you.

RIP to Ronnie Wilson. Charlie’s brother who is also in the band. He died recently. Charlie still performs. Everyone I know that has been to his concert says he is excellent!

Love it! My fave by them is You Dropped The Bomb On Me! Other songs I loved back then with the same vibe are Word Up-Cameo, Let It Whip-Dazz Band and Freak A Zoid-Midnight Starr..Keep On Rockin'

Most Funk bands had a lot of people. Partly because you needed a lot to create all the different sounds that comes with Funk but also I think that the early successful funk artists like James Brown had a bunch of people on stage and put on a big show so as other bands emulated that, it just became part of the genre The Gap Bands biggest hit was "you dropped a bomb on me" that is worth a listen. Some other Funk bands to try would be Zapp and Roger with "Doo Wa Diddy" or "More bounce to the ounce" or The Ohio Players with "Fire" or The Bar Kays with "Freakshow on the dance floor"

It's about time! GAP Band is the bomb! "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" is a must! "Outstanding" is one of the best songs ever. "Oops Upside The Head" is drop dead funk. "Yearning For Your Love" and "The Boys Are Back In Town" are also songs you've got to hear!
