Beware of scammers if you sell on Ebay and Gumtree

A person just messaged me without even asking for email but this person was very adamant on sending a courier to my house to pick up a $2000 laptop and pay via bank transfer with printed receipt. They were purchasing from Victoria while I was in NSW; why not just purchase similar priced laptop in their area without paying for courier. Plus they refused to send a digital receipt and would not let me ship with Australia post. I have seen way too many people fake a receipt and the next thing u know they will over pay and get all their money back, file complaint that item never arrived because u don’t have proof of them receiving it or they just didn’t pay u to begin with. Always do drop off or in person meet up, if you want to ship the item make sure you post it with a company you know will provide you with tracking number and ask recipient to sign as proof.

Another hint, if you didn't already find it odd that you have received a reply in 3 seconds is that the person always says they are buying it for a friend/cousin etc. Usually in China

Same thing happened to me yesterday on eBay luckily I spotted it a mile off but I can see why some people would fall for this!!

Ebay didn't lift a finger when I got scammed by one of the sellers. I lost $200.

I've sold on Gumtree For Free / no PayPal fees, etc, everyday for 7 years, and have been safe, via this advice;
EASY HARD FAST FACTS. NEVER USE PAYPAL ON GUMTREE EVEN IF ASKED, AS A SELLER JUST DO BANK TRANSFERS ONLY OR CASH-ON-COLLECTION FROM A LOCATION THAT IS *NOT* YOUR HOME ADDRESS. ITS BETTER TO LOOSE A SALE THAN LOSE YOUR SAVINGS! NEVER CORRESPOND OFF GUMTREE MAIL, THERE'S NO NEED, AND NEVER GIVE A SEPARATE EMAIL ADDRESS OR TELEPHONE NUMBER. IF THEY'RE PERSISTENT THEN SAY THE ITEM IS SOLD OR REMOVED FROM SALE. IF THEY ASK TO VISIT SAY NO, YOU'LL MEET THEM WITH THE ITEM AT A LOCATION (RAILWAY STATION CAR PARK, ETC). CASH ONLY.
OH, BANK TRANSFERS, DO NOT GIVE YOUR BIC/IBAN BANK DATA, THEY'RE ABROAD SO AVOID!
If you don't let them know where you are or how to connect with you off Gumtree they cannot touch you or your life. Ciao.

Remember Gumtree is NOT eBay. Owned by the same company but two very different animals. Gumtree is suited for cash only and messaging within Gumtrees messaging service.

I had one today I had a brand new iPad 6 for sale £350 got a email like you said in you video. I don’t do PayPal never had done fake address got shitty with me by sending PayPal link didn’t open it. Told the doc it isn’t for sale didn’t hear from him or or well done loved your video

The reason you get scammed on Ebay is because Ebay allows it. People do it because there no accountability, no punishment and nothing stopping them from doing so. They will just change their name, address, phone number and be on their way to commit more crimes.
