Wait until you dead short a 100A circuit inside an apartment electric furnace and trip the main breaker to 8 apartments! That was an arc flash that blew me back and blinded me for a few minutes.

Good that you have PPE on. I run a magic wand on circuits even after I turn the breaker or disconnect off. I've run across fused disconnects where someone couldn't get a fuse and just wired it straight. Spectacular flash at the capacitor!

Yep, not fun at all!! Back in 1980 my boss and I were troubleshooting a 480v hvac package system at a Pontiac Dealership! No disconnect at unit and my boss was flipping breakers on the back side of the building. We were communicating w/walkie-talkies he finally hit the right breaker but must have flipped it back on just as I was telling him that's it, stop! He told me to go ahead and start removing the burned out contactor! I was using one of those Craftsman flat screwdrivers the size of a tire iron and arced it across the cabinet! The next thing I knew I was being peeled out of a new Bonneville's driver door and holding the melted stub of that screwdriver! Needless to say, after a trip to the ER to be sure I was ok, , I went home and was laid up for 2 days before I could return to work!!

Never again did I trust anyone and verify, verify, verify 2 or 3 times before sticking my hands in any wires and no matter what ridicule I get, I never work hot!! Except for testing of course!!

Glad you are ok. Good thing it wasn't 480vac or things may have been different.

Oh, here we go again this has happened to everyone in the field regardless how you safe you have been . It's the nature of the beast, you knew to let go, glad you are safe. I hate hearing I would have done this or check this "The Perfect Tech".

When connecting on disconnecting sources of higher voltage, if the breaker is still wired to the load, make sure the switch is in the off position to prevent arcing.

I love circuit breakers instead of fuses, that was brave! I would've had to go wipe😄
Glad you are alright 👍

One more reason for me to test for power and keep doing hand-in-pocket. Stay safe out there!

Be careful working on that old junk. ⚡️⚡️
Hope you weren't injured too much. 👍

You have one split bar Which accepts tandem breakers and one solid bar which does not accept tandem breakers....intended only for single pole breakers.

I thought the flame in a blower motor was scary.

When working on live circuit I try to use only 1 hand in the area!
