In easier way: we have vowels or N or S (why n or s ? because we add n to verbs like habla - hablan and s to nouns like ojo - ojos )

Rule 1: if a word ends in vowels or N or S it must be stressed on SECOND TO LAST Syllable.
NO NEED for an accent marker, OTHERWISE it must be accented to direct you where to stress.

Rules 2: if a words ends in any other letter, it must be stressed on the LAST syllable.
NO NEED for an accent marker, OTHERWISE it must be accented to tell you where to stress.

Examples:
sofá = soFA because without accent sofa is must be pronounced SOfa.
también = tamBIEN ; without accent marker; tambien TAMbien.

I hope it's useful
Thank you

I don't know if this helps or not. But it's like the word 'suspect' it means two different things when said differently. SUSpect and susPECT

you won't know if a syllable is stressed by looking at it individually. You have to look at it in the context of the word. for example, the spanish word for telephone is pronounce teLEfono, and has an accent over the second e. Hope that helps.

This all has to do with which syllable is stressed when pronouncing the word. In Spanish, unlike English there are accents marks to assist with the stressed syllable in a word. Where you stress the syllable can change the meaning of a word completely, for example:

la papa - the potato
el Papa - the Pope
el papá - the dad

Rule 2 is the most important. Speaking isn't too hard, but knowing where to put the tildes (' or ~) is crucial to Spanish grammar and WILL come up in any Spanish class.

Gracias por el video! I'm Mexican American and while my first language was Spanish and I know the Spanish alphabet I use alot of common street slang and I never knew anything about using that accent Mark's in an appropriate way! I'm going to have to re watch the video a few times to get it because I'm SUPER confused! If anyone knows of more material I can see to help me, please point me in that direction

Y sí, yo hablo español y estoy viendo un vídeo de cómo hablarlo xDD
Ah y... MUCHAS personas que hablan español son pésimos en los acentos.... :v
Y muchos ni saben la diferencia entre "Hay" "Ay" y "Ahí" xDD!! Así que está bien :v

There is an app that teaches you accent mark placement rules without having to learn the rules. It makes it easy to learn to apply the rules.
