Eric, I hope you know that you have most of the island’s love & support. We had a long chat with a wonderful woman in Makawao. She was kind enough to sell me her extra copy of “Burn Back Better.” All of you need to read it if you haven’t already.

Prime real estate, I knew it from day one,
What a land grab
I hope I live long enough to see who had their hands in this

Still breaks my heart to see this 💔
This week last year I was enjoying a stroll on beautiful Front Street 🌺
Still praying for the people of Lahaina💕

Just returned from Maui. It was pretty chilly, I gotta say. The wind was no joke. Definitely not the gentle breezes we remember. We traveled to Oahu for Easter weekend and it was much warmer, without the intense wind gusts. Just something I observed. Does anyone else find it odd that nearly the entire path of totality looks to be blanketed with clouds on Monday? What don’t they want us to see? 🤔

Hello Eric, great video and reporting once again! Lahaina Shores is dear to our hearts for my wife and I. We visited Maui at Lahaina Shores/505 in August of 2021 and 2022 and we truly love this area and have amazing memories. We truly miss it. Thank you so much for showing it to us. We were considering purchasing a condo here. We will definitely come back one day to stay again. Thank you for all you do for Maui and the community by keeping the public informed, we really appreciate it. 🤙

It's sad to see a lack of help cleaning it all up. Nothing like 911. So sad. Thanks for the update 😊

Has the burned area map been overlaid on the "15 min city" plan map?

So incredibly sad. I continue to pray for each and every soul affected by the fire. My heart goes out to you. May God bless you!

It looks as if someone sprayed with a gigantic and superhot fireflame randomly but especially houses and buildings. It doesn't look natural at all!

Thanks for showing this Eric. I always stayed at Lahaina Shores. It was my home away from home. Happy to see she still is standing but sad to see everything around it is gone. Betty's Bar was my favorite watering hole. Loved the beach there as well n like u, I surfed there too. So many great memories there.

The Blue object reflects the Blue light. A laser at a specfici wavelength has more difficulty burning an object at that reflects the same wavelengths, ie that is the same color

Thank you for all these videos and your hard work since the terrible event.

My wife and my daughter and I were staying in Maui from July 27 to August 10, in a high rise condo about one mile north of town and we saw the sky turn red the entire night while the devasting fire destroyed the town and killed well over 100 people. We have been travelling to Maui for over 40 years and so we have a special affection for the island and for Lahaina in particular. Words cannot adequately express the shock and sadness that followed that terrible day. We have all seen and heard the heart wrenching stories of those who survived and videos of the devastation, both during and after.

After a few weeks, I was back home and Iz's (Israel Kamakawiwo'ole) famous Hawaii 78 song came into my head one morning. I found myself saying "Lahaina" in place of where Iz would say "Hawaii" and I felt that if he were alive today, he would have made a version of his song to honor Lahaina. I have taken the liberty of doing that and my wish is that I can impart some of the emotion associated with this tragedy. I wrote my new lyrics to interweave with Iz's powerful language, as a tribute to him and to those both on the island and around the world who mourn the loss of Lahaina and loved ones. I know that, in time, the town and its people will rise from the ashes with renewed life.

All the photos in the video were taken by me or my wife over our decades in Lahaina and Maui. The last two images are of Lahaina harbor, first as it appeared in a photo, and finally the painting we own of that harbor, which is now just a memory.

The beautiful backing instrumental is by Arden Fujiwara.

I want to be sure you know that my channel is not monetized. If you are not a subscriber to YouTube, you may see ads, but I do not receive anything from the ads. I hope you enjoy this and that it helps heal a broken heart. Mahalo for listening.

I wonder...why is the 505 garage is flooded?

1978, bus from the airport dropped me and 6 suitcases off at 505. From there an older lady named Max picked me up and brought me to “Mango Manor” on the corner of Lahainaluna Rd where I had rented a room . Didn’t stay at that place to long but made Maui home for 20 years.

All our belongings are still locked inside Lahaina Shore Hotel. Since August we have been trying to get them back. Now we were told that only people in hazmat suits can enter the building, and all our items are contaminated, therefore need to be Decontaminated which
would be very expensive, thus it is cheaper to destroy them. I am surprised seeing you around without hazmat attire. How could something get contaminated inside of the building which was not even touched by fire? I am also surprised to see deserted streets. I bet tourists are not allowed to enter this area so they could not take any pictures.

Mahalo for sharing this video. My grandparent's house was across the street from 505 Front Street and I learned how to surf at the Lahaina Wharf too in 1971.

I used to go there. Loved dining next door above the Luau. Better view, better food, better service, better price. Once I was there with my sons and a girl. The girl was slipping booze to my pre teen son. My older son was dealing with him in their own room all evening, and they were finally in bed. My older son was thinking how could this evening be any worse. That’s when my drunk pre teen got up, opened his brother’s suitcase, and vomited in it. Good times 👍🏽
PS she was a school teacher.
