Mercari is Adding Fees Back for Sellers AND Buyers...

This video is an update about mercari's new fee system thats going into place Jan 6. Let me know your thoughts below.

As a buyer, I have not bought a thing on Mercari in 2024. So there you go. That 3.6% fee will probably still keep me away. Like you said, seeing the fee on top of taxes and shipping... that's stepping over the line for many buyers, including myself.

This is the end of Mercari, this is why their CEO resigned a few weeks ago because this is a terrible business strategy. The fees should be paid by one or the other, not both, when both pay it, both are not happy, and both will leave. Mercari will be filing for bankruptcy in 2025.

Mercari used to be pretty good but its trash now for both buyers and sellers.

As a seller, the new 10% seller fee is significantly higher than before and is discouraging. If you list something for $200, by the time the selling fee and shipping if you opt to pay, which I try to do, to entice potential buyers, is deducted, you're down $40!
As a buyer, adding a separate buyer protection fee on top of the item price feels like an extra burden, especially for smaller purchases.

I haven’t shopped at Mercari since buyer fees. I wont shop there until they’re completely gone.

I personally wish Mercari did not change their policy again… I was making more money off of the no seller fee

Mercari should go back to the way it was before (sellers pay all fees, buyers should only pay tax and shipping fee if any) and lower its commission fee rather than juggling who gonna pay fees between sellers and buyers. Even if it’s just 1% lower it would make both sides happy.

As a seller I was astonished by the fee on shipping so they went from no fee to 14% from seller and then sitting the buyer with a fee also I may just get all my stuff off there and put it back on ebay

This is why everyone flocked to Mercari. Because eBay did the same thing. Now everyone will leave for yet another platform. I made about 400$ by selling but I’m done after this.

It was good while it lasted. Even without fees Mercari found ways to tax the buyers. I for sure will think thrice before making a purchase on their platform.

I quit buying on Mercari mid last year! All their rules are ridiculous. Returns fees etc. Now with the new fees I removed it from my fav and short cuts. I purchased about 20G worth of items in one year and will not be buying anything on Mercari ever again! So sellers I have looked on several websites talking about this and buyers are fleeing to eBay, FB market place and Poshmark. This guy seems to be trying to ride the fine line of saying how he is ok with Mercari ‘s new BS but as he needs buyers he might want to do a little more investigation on what buyers are saying and where they are going if this is his biz!

I have stopped using Mercari because I don’t like the fee. I used to purchase several items a week when there was no fee.

Do you know how to get your new listings to show up with the "newest filter". For some reason recently, mine are only showing in best match but not in "newest"?

I Abandoned my carts once I saw the final price after all the fees. eBay and Poshmark was much cheaper for me to buy from. We’ll see how my cart looks in January. I may just stay with the alternatives. Buyers never should have had to pay fees.

If the seller fee is back for $2 and the deposit fee for $2 remains then add 4 dollars to the item you're selling and let it be at that and if your item just sits there delete it and list something else. This has become a dog eat dog country every person for themselves unfortunately. Nothing is simple anymore people have been condition and programmed to be mediocre and petty in america like never before. If you're having a problem paying $5 for something then you really don't need to be on mercari because you're wasting your time and everyone elses. I'm starting to think a bunch of kids are running this show.
