Jurassic Park (1993) Theatrical Trailer #1 [5.1[ [4K] [FTD-1270]

This is the original first (non-teaser) trailer for Jurassic Park. It was also the only Jurassic Park trailer that had a DTS 5.1 digital audio track, which for this first DTS release was only on the original issue DTS discs of the feature audio itself. (The first 3 DTS features released...Jurassic Park, Heart & Souls and Hard Target...had different encoding on the original issue DTS discs which only work with the first generation model 6 player.) Later re-issues of the feature discs authored for current model players did not contain this trailer audio.

That was the beauty of how the movie was initially previewed as a coming attraction - how the dinosaurs were realized was largely kept under wraps so that when you were sitting there in the theater actually seeing the movie it was legitimately an awesome experience.

Good on the trailer editor for not bombarding us with footage of the T-rex.

Either I'm giving the editor too much credit & thinking they knew well to save that reveal for the film or the CGI hasn't been finished when the trailer was being cut.

This quality reminds me of how movies were shown on the big screen during the 90’s. Almost that dark, grainy quality. I miss those days.

I legit feel sorry for people that didn't get to see this in the theaters when it came out. Poor Zoomers.

You gotta admire how they tried to keep the look of the dinosaurs a secret in the trailer by not giving a good full look at them. If this was the only trailer you saw of Jurassic Park & you didn't keep up with the then recent discoveries, then I bet seeing the active & intelligent dinosaurs must've been a shock.

Besides DTS, noticed the trailer also advertised Spectral Recording Dolby Stereo, but it doesn't appear on the film itself. (No, this doesn't count the Dolby SR Digital logo seen on the credits of 1994 re-issues))

ILM bought a bunch of SGI Crimson workstations to use on Jurassic Park, but they were considered outdated by the mid-1990s. At the next upgrade cycle, those Crimsons ended up getting silkscreened with a dino footprint and the moniker "Jurassic Classic" and were resold to universities. ACCAD (Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design) at The Ohio State University had a couple of them when I was there circa 1995-1997.

I could even notice the text "PREVIEWS" and "ALL AUDIENCES" being more larger.

I was lucky enough to see the 3D re-release on National Cinema Day this August.

Notice how you don’t get a single shot of a full-body dinosaur in the trailer, but there’s just enough to suggest that there are dinosaurs and things are about to go bad? That’s good teasing!

Finally! The original, authentic first trailer in glorious HD is on YouTube! I've been searching on here for years trying to find a high quality copy of the original trailer and I've finally found it. I genuinely appreciate You for posting this.

Honestly the trailer gives the movie much more of a horror vibe than the actual movie which blended thriller with that whimsy Spielberg style. This would probably fit better for a version that's closer to the book.

Astounding! This is the same trailer that I watch and kickstart my love for cinema, 30 years ago. I was 5 years old, prepare to watch some movie with my dad and suddenly this trailer comes out. Next week or so, we watch JP on the same theatre.

Perfect timing for Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary.

The inclusion of the 5.1 track suggests this trailer would have been screened before Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, which had a Dolby Digital track. Only two Universal titles (three if you count Posse, which was the first release of the Universal/PolyGram joint venture Gramercy) had 5.1 digital tracks before the introduction of DTS: Dragon and Matinee, released more than three months earlier.

Excellent Trailer in 4K of course! At the age of 8, I saw it on my mother's birthday (June 11th), the same opening day with my family and just the start of Summer Vacation after the last day of school and it was a colossal adventure! Incredible Dinosaurs that look so real it's frightening! Has a great cast, a wonderful score and a beautiful direction! It was the dino hit of 1993! And still a classic 30 years later!

That feeling you get when you realize every AI script got their intros from 90s movie trailers.

It's mad that none of the groundbreaking effects are shown in this trailer. In fact you barely see any dinosaurs at all. Shows that it wasn't just all that which made this film a success.
