Regarding putting a stone into a corps mouth it was also done because people believed that a body could be possessed by a 'demon' or 'bad spirit' could enter through the mouth and take possession of the body.

Mummies are commonly found with a "scream" because as the skin dries and shrinks it pulls the jaw open.

I'm actually surprised that the Grauballe man wasn't on here.
It's a bog body uncovered in 1952, in Denmark by a peat farmer.

The extraordinary thing is, that despite being a little deformed by the pressure of the bog, the body was so intact that police were contacted, and it was thought to be a local man whom had disappeared years before the unearthing.
The body has recently been dated to 290 BC, and still, to this day, has preserved hair, nails, bears stubs and even fingerprints.
The agreed upon consensus is that he was killed by having his throat slit ear to ear, but there are disagreements about why, if it was ritualistic or a punishment.
Because of the chemistry in bogs the hair, which was originally thought to be dark, is now a orange colour and body is almost black. It was the first full bog body to be preserved, and this was done by tanning the body, as to make it into leather, and then filling it with oak bark.

Bite marks do not mean cannibalism in most cases!.. Simply means that ancient humans use their teeth as a tool to shape, cut and form other objects...

In reference to the skull fragments inside of another skull.

Picture one head being thrust into a spike, now picture two heads being put onto the same spike, perhaps the spike pushed part of one of the bottom skulls pushed fragments up into the one above it.
