How to download free audiobooks!

Want free audiobooks? Watch this video! I discuss why Audible probably isn't the best service for you, and demonstrate that there are better companies out there.

References - So I say a lot of things in this video, that are not opinions, that are based on research and I think needs some links to prove it.

Bonus Things I didn't discuss:

I really wanted to put some references in here, I'll be doing that later. Sorry, I stuffed up.

Did you hit that like button, what about subscribe? Hit them like they're Holden Caulfield on his birthday and you're a calm rational thug.

Such great food for thought! You persuaded me to get a Scribd subscription last year and I love it. I also love Libby - it was a wonderful lockdown discovery for me.

Since finding Libby earlier this year I think it is the best app for audio and ebooks! Free, and I have managed to get so many new or prize nominated books on there. It’s also helped me to be able to borrow the ebook to read along or check on things I’m not getting to grips with on an audio. Of course I wish my library would get even more books, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at what I’ve been able to borrow.

I use scribd as well and I am happy with it. I don't really read many audiobooks, so it is nice to be able to hop on there when I do want to listen to one (I also use my library's audiobook library too though). And scribd is a MUCH better service for you as you read so many audiobooks a month!! Makes it so worth the price for you. I used LibriVox as a saving grace during university. I didn't but the books I wouldn't write essays on and suspected I wouldn't like and saved me some precious student money 😅My library uses borrowbox to connect me to their ebooks and audiobooks and I adore it!! I don't ever go in to get physical copies (see, my massive owned tbr) but I switch between ebook and physical books for my 'commute reads' if they are over 400 pages.

Hmmmm, you’ve got me considering my own audible subscription. What an incredibly researched video. Whew, Scott. I’m impressed. Xigxag is new to me. Hm. I’m not a big SCRIBD fan. Not surprisingly, I mostly borrow audiobooks from my local library.

Thoughtful and informative, as usual, Scott. Thanks for making this video. I listen to about 15 audiobooks every month and rely exclusively on my public library for access, using both the Libby and Hoopla apps.

This video is brilliant. I knew I needed to break up with audible but you have given me even more reasons to really try and do this. I stay with them because I can download books onto my little sansa clip which I use to get to sleep at night. I can't listen to my phone in bed and the only way I can get to sleep is with an audiobook. I am going to look at Scribd. The advert before and after your video was for audible 😂😂😂

You're so right and--
I think it's easy for readers to get outraged by individual hateful authors over Amazon (at least in part) because an individual feels way more stoppable than the many headed monster that is a sprawling and monopolizing corporation.
Excellent alternatives. I've been doing a lot of classics m'self because they are readily available for free right here on YouTube 🙂📚♥️

Excellent video, it just sucks that if we look into about everything we buy there is a similar strand of horrors to unravel. Its so hard to be an ethical consumer these days, but as you've taken the effort this one is mostly a no brainer for those who have the option.

Thank you so much for this. I knew Amazon were dodgy but never realised quite how despicable their practices were. I am definitely making the change from audible to one of your recommended companies.

I learned a lot from this video about truly horrible The big A’s practices are. I had broken up with Audible awhile ago and exclusively use Scribd, my library, and libravox. My library uses the cloud library app which is also terrible but the books are free!

THANK YOU! I'm a librarian and every time a booktuber talks about Audible my heart dies a little. "Fun" fact: Audible has exclusive titles that it won't license to libraries, so the ONLY way to access them is to pay j*ff b*zos (or, yarr, on the seven seas 😉).
I also have to recommend that people do a search for libraries that offer non-resident memberships, which are sometimes free and sometimes have a fee (which is usually less for digital-only cards). I have 8 Libby cards myself, but recently met a guy with 24 cards! And uh, you didn't hear it from me, but a lot of library systems let you register online and don't actually check that you live at the address you give 🤔😛
