Reading the comments and I start realizing people have nostalgia for the Jason Derulo version and not the Imogen Heap original.
I’m getting old.

Their both iconic, but I'll have to go with hide and seek because of the memes

both are really good but the imogen heap original is still one of the most beautiful songs ever made 18 years later, and with just one (two if u count the carrier and vocal tracks inside the vocoder separately) instrument in it and that has to be worth something

Imogen, though. And Ariana Grande's loop cover of one of Imogen Heap's songs, is forever a winner 🏆

Well, the issue here is you cannot really compare them because both songs are structured so differently.

Jason Derulo's song has that verse as the hook all throughout the song, his song is built around that verse.

Jason's song structure:

Hook (Whatcha say)
Verse 1
Hook (Whatcha say)
Verse 2
Hook (Whatcha say)
Breakdown
Verse 2.5
Hook/Outro (Whatcha say)

The original song however is about other things and that "hook" is just a small part of the song as a whole.

Imogen Heap structure:

Verse 1
"Hook" (Pseudo)
"Breakdown"
"Hook" (Pseudo)
True Hook (Whatcha say)
2 verse Pseudo Outro
True Outro

It's apples to oranges.
