THERE IS A REASON - No Game No Life: Zero [Piano] / Konomi Suzuki

My Steinway Piano is finally back! After being separated for more than 8 months, I am so happy to be able to play on a grand piano again. It took me almost one week of nonstop practice to get used to the heavy keys of a Steinway again because I was playing on an electrical piano since January 2021.

To celebrate the return of my instrument, I decided to upload the much-requested song「There is a Reason」from『No Game No Life: Zero』, which is essentially the spiritual successor of my 「This Game」piano arrangement. They both feature extensive arpeggio passages, fast three-hand techniques and a super exciting finale part – with other words: Just pure fun to play!

I used a very uncommon left-hand pattern in the first chorus in 1:11, because I really liked how the guitar instrument is building up the tension in the original song and I wanted to imitate that sound on the piano. I can’t believe a simple octave left hand pattern can actually sound that exciting - sometimes simple is really the best.

My favorite part of the original song is the key change in 3:36 because I absolutely didn’t expect the chorus being played in E-minor instead of F#-minor. Usually, J-pop songs are using the key change for the final repeat of the chorus, but「There is a Reason」 basically reversed that order. Really awesome passage and I actually consider this as the actual climax of the entire song. That’s why I omitted the pedal on the piano for this part to make it stand out even more.

Last but not least, I was actually planning to play a small modulation in 3:50 to make a smoother transition from E-minor back to F#-minor, but I realized the best flow of music is achieved by simply jumping back to F# minor, like the original song. A quick glissando is really the ultimate “cheat code” if you want to do a key change instantly!

Alright, thank you for reading this week’s “Animenz Explains” column!
With my new recording studio fully set up, I will continue with my “Best of Anime Movie theme songs” upload in the next week as well!

And it's a song from the popular Fate/Stay Night - Heaven’s Feel Movie!
See you next week again!

Damn, after getting his piano back, he immediately went on and made sure he uses most of the keys again as if he's hugging his piano 😂, you can clearly see it with those series of arpeggios 👍

OH GOD, HOW I MISSED THIS FORMAT, these finger reflections on the front of the piano, these wooden hammers hitting the strings, this Steinway & Sons lettering. This great and incredible sound. Finally it happened. Animenz and the Steinway Grand piano ARE BACK TOGETHER.

The lyrics of "There is a Reason - No Game No Life : Zero OP", "So, the reason I carry on for the sake of love is because you're right here with me." (So, 愛のために進むのは,君とここにいるから) shall be the best words to explain the reason I carry on listening to the excellent musicians' work pieces for the sake of love is because Animenz is always right here with me.

"Moonlamp-chan on the grand piano"

Why didn't the possibility crossed my mind?! It's beautiful, I knew you wouldn't abandon her.
I am glad (and I bet we all are)
And what a way to come back on your grand piano
I mean _there is a reason_ why animenz and his grand piano are the absolute best duo in the anime music world.

Thank you so much for even reserving this piece for the grand reintroduction of the Grand Piano. Everybody has that one or two songs they really want you to arrange and I've been anticipating your arrangement for almost 4 years now. The wait will surely be worth it, considering how your style has improved over the years. Vielen Dank! I'm looking forward to your next arrangements.
Greetings, the guy spamming the comment sections about this song/piece

Congratulations on getting back the Steinway D274 Spirio R Grand Piano. This is absolutely a stunning arrangement, and it gave me lots of nostalgic vibes. I also look forward to your future development Animenz!

Here are my favorite highlights of this arrangement:
I really like the quiet beginning, sounds exactly like the original song. At 0:32, I love the gentle bass notes, it sounds heavy but warm.

0:48 gentle "cross-hand" technique, serve as a very nice simple 3 hand technique.

1:13 The entire atmosphere is built up with dynamic octave patterns. As you said, simple is the best. The pattern here has also reminded me of the first verse of your Kaikai Kitan arrangement.

1:44 The second verse starts with 3 hand technique, the LH patterns used in the first verse are now moved to the RH and served as a nice contrast with the previous part.

2:12 The combination between staccato and fast LH arpeggios has formed a nice pre-chorus part.

2:44 I really like how you arranged this part. While LH is playing bass notes and melody at the same time, RH plays fast arpeggios. It has reminded me of the last chorus of your The Everlasting Guilty Crown arrangement. Very fancy passage.

3:36 is 10/10 my favorite part of this arrangement. As you said, this part DESERVE it! The release of the pedal, strong RH decorations, and powerful bass notes simply exploded this part and set the entire arrangement on fire.

3:56 After an octave glissando, the entire arrangement has entered the final part. Glissando can always serve as a fast and convenient transition while arranging anime piano covers. The following fast LH arpeggios have built a "sound wall" for the entire song. This part has definitely reminded me of your arrangement of This Game, Swordland, and unravel. Feels nostalgic!

Another wonderful arrangement by Animenz! Good luck with your next upload!

Finally, the long awaited arrangement. What can I say, that won't be said. Incredible, enthralling, intense, beautifully done, quint essentially Animenz. Such a powerful energy throughout the whole arrangement. The arpeggios, jumps, runs and just all round dynamic insanity on display is just amazing. Welcome back Steinway-Kun, always a pleasure to see you.

The continuous low bass notes really take good advantage of the 9-foot concert grand, but i am quite surprised that you use the deepest bass note in the first chorus, usually you save that for the last chorus when the song reaches its climax .some highlight for this arrangement:
The three hand techniques at 2:43 and 3:36 really stands out from the other, especially the 3:36 with slightly staccato is genius .i think the reason your arrangements attract me so much is because you can always surprise me with the deploy of different sound texture.
The left hand arpeggios and right hand B note tremolo at 3:51 is almost identical to your Departure (guilty crown)arrangement .The left hand octave glissando at 3:57 reminds me of your Daisy arrangement, and the following left hand arpeggios at 3:58 reminds me of your swordland arrangement, the satisfying D note in 4:10 is also a nice touch, Finally, the sound wall at 4:31 by fast upward scales is a big release for the tension which gives me the same vibe as your unlasting arrangement although in unlasting you use fast downward arpeggios instead of upward scales to create that release effect.Masterpiece as usual! Lastly, Animenz, if it's possible, I hope the video you make in the future can have higher angle just like your 2020 video to include the damper head of piano in the sight so we can know how you use the pedal(e.g. the camera angle of your 2021 this game video and this there is a reason video isn't high enough, the damper head is out of sight), thank you!!!
