Those who don't want to listen to this robotic voice talking, the BAD NEWS is about "the high voltage wire corrosion" problem (So called Cablegate) most of hybrid owners and potential hybrid buyers already know about. Anyway, I would skip or wait on a hybrid especially if I live in snowy area.

I have a 2021 Rav4 Prime SE. I live in the California Bay Area and checked out my cablegate and it is fine after 1 year and 17k miles. For preventive maintenance I put dielectric grease in the cablegate cover around the wiring and put a duct tape around the opening. I don't see this as being a problem for owners in warmer areas where there is no road salts. I will check on it from time to time.

I had the cable problem on my 2019 RAV4 Hybrid LTD and it cost me $5691 to repair. My car was less than 3 years old but I had 51k miles. The hybrid warranty did not cover the repair even though the alert on my app stated that I had a malfunction in the hybrid system. A class action complaint has been filed in the U. S. also and includes the following vehicles:

110. The Class Vehicles experiencing the Defect are all
Toyota RAV4 Hybrids and Prime vehicles manufactured 2019-2022,
as
well as, Toyota Highlander Hybrids for model year 2020, 2021 and
2022, Venza Hybrid AWD vehicles from 2021 and 2022,
LEXUS NX350h
AWD for 2021 and 2022 and NX450H AWD plug in Hybrid for
2022,
based upon the identical design or substantially similar design
of the orange cable connector, and the configuration and placement
of the high voltage wire harness rendering the MGR subject to
shorting out.
Thank you for the video.

I saw a video where the connector is located. I would go under the SUV and clean the cable exterior well to remover all dirt and corrosion. Then I would shoot a big glop of hi temperature silicone all over both ends of the connector and part of the cable. It would then be very hard for water or salt to get into there. If you need to disconnect, the RTV comes off easily. Easy fix and not to worry about future fights with Toyota. Also never buy the first or second year of a new generation of a car. Let them work out all the bugs first, hopefully by the third year.

I'm glad that I bought the 2021 Rav4 gas model, fewer potential problems. (bad cable, CVT trans, gas tank etc).

is the cable issue on ALL RAV4s or only certain years? Has Toyota fixed it for the newer vehicles?

Toyota replaced the cable and harness to the rear motor of our 2020 Rav 4 in October, 2023, at no cost to us. The vehicle had 75, 000 kms, we live in Nova Scotia.
Hopefully, the problem is solved...

I found this quote from Bing AI: "According to some sources, Toyota Canada has issued a service bulletin for 2019 and 2021 Rav4 Hybrids informing dealerships about the issue and agreeing to change the part at its own expense to fuel its investigation²⁸. However, some customers have also filed a lawsuit against Toyota Canada alleging that they were charged thousands of dollars for the repair or denied warranty coverage⁴⁸.

I'm wondering if this problem effects Corolla hybrids as well?

Friends of mine have two year old Kia Sportage. One of the spark plugs failed at a low mileage and they had to be towed. Kia charged them a lot of money to replace the plug, even though the car supposedly has a seven year warranty. It was Kia who said the plug had ‘failed’, and a modern iridium plug should last miles. A spark plug in a modern car is not a consumable like a filter, brake pad or tyre, motto being, don’t trust warranties.

watch from 3minutes, just aware high voltage wires corrosion has only 3yr/60K warranty! thanks! but the most common problem is timing/head cover leak! I see one 2021 leak at 1K miles!

We have a 2021 Venza Hybrid, does it have the same problem?

If the high voltage cable was removed then the rear motor would not work, correct? If so then how can they say it's not part of the hybrid system? I was thinking of purchasing a Rav4 because I thought Toyota had a good customer service and warranty, but apparently they are no better than the other vehicle manufacturers.

I have a 2020 Rav4 Hybrid I have been waiting for the repair since November 2023 the cable finally came in. My dealership says they will not charge me for the job. I'm worried that this problem will happen again. Does anyone know if this new cable will last or will it happen again.
