CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The Bears stick it to the Yankees during the trophy presentation as Lupus (Quinn Smith) declares "wait 'til next year."

FILM DESCRIPTION:
The success this underdog comedy from director Michael Ritchie almost single-handedly spawned the kids' sports film boom of the 1980s and '90s. When beer-breathed ex-minor-league ball player and professional pool cleaner Morris Buttermaker (Walter Matthau) agrees to coach a little league team in the San Fernando Valley, he soon finds he's in over his head, having inherited an assortment of pint-sized peons and talentless losers. They play well-organized teams and lose by tremendous margins, and the parents threaten to disband the Bears to save the kids (and themselves) any further embarrassment. Buttermaker refuses, though, and brings in a pair of ringers: Amanda (Tatum O'Neal), his ex-girlfriend's tomboy daughter, and Kelly (Jackie Earle Haley), a cigarette-smoking delinquent who happens to be a gifted athlete. With their help, the Bears manage to change their losing ways and qualify for the championship, where they face their arch-rivals, the Yankees.

I was an 11 year old in Wales when this came out. It hit the local theatre. My friend and I knew nothing about baseball or little league. But I saw the poster and I said "I want to see that". And we did - four times in a week! It was so liberating coming from a little Welsh town, the way the kids spoke and acted and that attitude! We laughed until the tears ran down our cheeks. A brilliantly written, acted and produced movie. And those musical interludes from Carmen - superb! The casting of Walter Matthau and Tattum O'Neal was inspired. A brilliant movie and it's still my number one in middle age!

When Matthau says, "Thank you sir." upon receiving the second place trophy is one of the underrated gems of this movie. LOL

I met Tatum O’Neal and I asked her about that scene and she said that all the bottles of beer were actually filled with Gingerale

Never mind players walking out of the cornfield...once a year, MLB should have a game where players drink beer and wear Chico's Bail Bond shirts.

What I love about this film is that the Bears are underdogs and they still didn't win the big game in the end like most movies where the underdog team always win the big game. They didn't let the loss get them down because they came a long way from where they initially started with bad players and a drunk coach who didn't give a damn. Managed to go from the worst team in the league all the way up to second best.

One of the greatest sports movies of all time, and certainly the greatest ending. Without a doubt, the losing team won.

It is all about attitude! Love it. I can’t explain the emotion I feel when I watch it. In this age of everyone getting a trophy, this movie demonstrates true grit and tenacity!

For those of you in the L.A. area, the kid on the Yankees "apologizing" to the Bears is none other than the KTLA5 economic reporter David Lazarus. I follow him on Twitter and just found out a couple of days ago, as he Tweeted "I got a $ 12.00 residual check for my role in the Bad News Bears...gonna go get a couple gallons of gas"
