French royals and nobles were living together in this massive complex, and although women were actively surrounded by political powers, they had none for themselves. In fact, there might have been more expectations than pleasures dominating their life. And although Versailles was a massive palace it was impossible to have time for yourself.

No, the heavely boned stay were not painful, and you didn’t need practise for wearing one. They were made for your body and your unique proportion, that’s why they were very confortable. And don’t start me with thigh lacing loll, its was virtually impossible without metal grommet and they were invented in 1850

My Favorite part in Versailles was when Madam De Montespan yelled "Chamber Pot"!! in a panick....she ended up crouching in a stairwell to relieve herself.

As soon as you started talking about the "crushing" corsets you lost all credibility.

Apparently it was all the rage to shape their hair/wigs with a plaster, forming things like sailing ships and horses, they would try and keep these intact for as long as possible by continuous re-application of the plaster mix, the women slept with their heads and necks resting in "cradles" in an attempt to preserve the "sculpture", keeping these styles for as long as possible meant that their scalps and hair were infested with lice and whatever else crawled into it.

Don't know what the life expectancy was in those days, but considering the lack of basic hygiene and that germ theory was unknown....no, thanks!

Imagine being strangled by your garments, and yet every precious breath you manage to get is filled with stench lol. Pretty messed up … lol

Amazing these people would spend fortunes on clothes, and spectacular palaces but couldn't cough up for more chamber pots, which would cost very little, or even proper sanitation, talk about getting your priorities arse about face.

Would I like to live in Versailles? Ofcourse, only if I would be the king to have toilet access :))
