Pretty hypocritical how beauty and fashion companies say they want to make people feel better about how they look, yet their products are all to hide any "flaws" and make perfection seem essential.

In the early 60s, Bonnie Bell came out with cosmetics designed for young pre teens who wanted a "natural" look (like god would give you if god had gone to beauty school), and we loved it, along with the bright blue eyeshadow everyone was wearing. All other cosmetics companies targeted "sophisticated" women who were usually just older so the makeup was way more mask like. I still loved it, and the rock and roll English bands started eyeliner for men and women and great exaggeration in styles. Still a long way to go...

Disapointed that the Mica issue wasn't mentioned. It's the sparkle in soo many cosmetics and it's dangerously mined by 4 to 15yr olds for cents. I scan my makeup to make sure it's not an ingredient.

Many of these issues are more of a problem in the US, than elsewhere. The UK has much stricker rules on cosmetics, lead for example is banned in the UK and the EU products, many other dangerous chemicals are also banned, so some US products cannot be sold on this side of the Atlantic and there is much greater exclusivity on make up colours, because the racist attitudes of US cosmetics companies are not part of the UK's way of life. There is also a movement to stop airbrushing photos, in fact the UK chemists Boots, refuses to airbrush the models in their shop available magazine.
If you want to avoid some of these problems, buy UK and EU cosmetics products if you can. It's the same problem as the US, has with food items, some of which again are banned in the UK and EU.
