Ideas for things to do in Shinjuku, one of the main areas of Tokyo, Japan.

Shinjuku's one of my favourite areas - it really feels like the city of Tokyo: big, busy, with neon lights, skyscrapers and lots going on. Here's what it's like in Shinjuku, with a round-up of things to do there. Including a free view of the city from the observation deck at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Shinjuku Park (Shinjuku Gyoen), Godzilla at the Hotel Gracery, the Samurai Museum, shopping, department stores, karaoke, games arcades, the Robot Restaurant, the Golden Gai, Omoide Yokocho (aka Memory Lane or Piss Alley!) and Kabukicho.

When I first went to Japan I stayed just near Shinjuku Gyoen, it was perfect to be close to all the entertainment but far away enough to be in a quiet area! Always love watching your videos so I can get excited for when I can get back again!

Nice tips, Amy! I think that even for people like me, who isn't much interested in crowded and overbuilt spaces, a walk around Shinjuku and Shibuya is kinda important to get a feel for Tokyo, even if you don't want to spend much time there. I always look forward to your vids! I'm going to show my wife your new dress as it looks great!

Whenever I go to Japan I stay in a small hotel in Shinjuku across from the eastern part of Kabukicho. Every morning I would go on a jog to the Godzilla head and back before heading out for the day’s journey. Would recommend visiting the Samurai Museum for a fun experience as it’s very hands on in terms of costumes and even learning how to sword fight. There’s also a temple that has a small market every Saturday or Sunday with little trinkets from a lot of old folk.

Went to Tokyo and stayed in Kabukicho for 7 days straight at a hotel, as someone coming from southern Europe it felt unbelievably safe and relaxing 🤣🤣🤣

Samurai Museum was actually awesome! That was one of our best experiences in Tokyo. They spoke great English, had a great sword show, great sense of humour when giving us the tour. We saw a samurai versing a ninja!

The samurai museum is really cool, stayed in the godzilla Hotel and that place is just around the corner if I remember correctly.
Great video and tips...looking forward to going back :)

I really like the Gracery Hotel Chain. I stayed at the one in Asakusa. Very clean, safe and reasonable for the size of the room.

I hope Japan opens up soon.

My fiance and I were supposed to be in Japan right now. 💔
Since we have to reschedule (hopefully it'll be in 2021) we decided to double our trip time and see more of Japan.

That's where I stayed! Loved Shinjuku. Was wonderful. I keep thinking of my time in Tokyo. I've never felt more at home than in Tokyo.

I was planning on going this year but with the outbreak and all ...well ya'know and it's always a pain to get someone to come with you, I mean I've don'e a 11 hour flight before and it's so boring on your own

Could you maybe do a video about the various good rooftop gardens and viewing decks in Tokyo and other cities- especially the free and cheap ones!?... :-)

When I went to kabuchiko, I had two people follow me, trying to get me to a club or something. I just avoided eye contact and kept shaking my head and saying no and eventually they left me alone. Only bad experience I had in Japan.

We stayed in Shinjuku at the Hyatt Regency and yes we got lost in Shinjuku station several times. Funny story, the first day we went to the station, I was so confused by the map. A young lady stopped and asked us where we would like to go. I told her to tell me where I should go. She laughed and asked again and I said I really didn't know where I should go and asked for suggestions. She said that the samurai museum was near by so we just walked there. It is small but awesome and the tour guide spoke really good English. Then the tour guide told us about an Udon place around the corner and it was super good. Planning to get back when possible.

While I was in Kabukicho, I kept having those dudes trying to coerce me into their bars.
I said "I"m a white guy vacationing in Japan... why are Nigerians the only people who want to talk to me?"
In a lot of the hotels and convenience stores there are pre-recorded English messages saying "Beware the touts. Do not accept their offers."
The stories are not all dramatized and clickbait. They WILL take advantage of you if you're gullible.

Thank so much for the very detailed information! ❤
I wonder if you can make a video about how the coin lockers system work in JP.
I’ve been there once but all the coi lockers seem to be alway sold out. Can i pay for an over night?

Your videos and guide book bring comfort and something to look forward to. This video in particular is great, we were supposed to be staying at Tokyo Sunroute Shinjuku in April! Hoping for November 2021 at this point :)
