Journey - Open Arms - Festival de Viña del Mar 2008

Una particular formación en el Show del Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar 2008 tuvo la banda de rock norteamericana JOURNEY con el vocalista Arnel Pineda.
Efectivamente, el cantante filipino fue incorporado a la banda JOURNEY, siendo su primera presentación oficial con JOURNEY el 21 de febrero del 2008 en el Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar en Chile con una transmisión televisiva en conjunto para 80 países y en vivo por señales locales, de cable y el afamado canal A&E. El filipino Arnel Pineda derrochó energía y logró cautivar a todo el público con su voz muy parecida a la de Steve Perry y su gran presencia escénica, rejuveneciendo a la banda y dejando en segundo plano su carácter de absoluto novato. Only a fool would even attempt to discredit Arnel or to compare him to Steve Perry. This young man has an utterly amazing voice and deserves much more credit and support than he is given.

Many people don't realize... Journey has been looking for someone for years that can sing like Steve Perry. They searched all over USA, Europe, Latin America, and they just randomly found Arnel on Youtube all the way from the Philippines. My point is, his talent is obviously one in a million.

I felt moved when I read Arnel Pineda's life-story. When his mom died they were broke. To ease his father's burden, Pineda quit school and started working. He spent about two years on the streets, sleeping wherever he could: in public parks, or on a narrow bench outside a friend's crowded house. He earned meager money by collecting glass bottles, newspapers, and scrap metal and selling them to recyclers. He would also go to the pier with his friends and take on odd jobs like cleaning scrap metal and docked ships. He didn't have much to eat. When Pineda was 15 years old (1982) he became the lead singer of the Filipino group Ijos, and later Amo. Didn't earn much but more than before, a rising curve started after he began singing in that band. In 1990 he and 5 other band members from Amo formed a new band called New Age. They worked in Hong Kong from 1991 to 2006. Back in Philippines in 2006 he formed a new band, called The Zoo. They became known on youTube performing cover songs by Journey, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, The Eagles, Kenny Loggins, Stryper and other popular acts from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. In the summer of 2007 Neal Schon of Journey contacted Pineda, asking him to come to USA for an odition as the new lead singer for Journey. On December 5, 2007, Pineda was announced as the new lead singer of Journey and the rest is history, as they said. He really fought hard to get where he is today and of course, indeed he deserve it. it's not easy to fill Steve Perry's shoes, but if someone could do it, it was Pineda. It was very lucky for both Pineda and Journey that he became the new lead singer. It was a deal made in Heaven. amen.

Just for the record, it is already 2022..and Arnel Pineda is still doing incredibly well as a lead singer of Journey! What was more amazing was that Journey performed in New York Times Square on New Year's Eve as the prime performer in that iconic event with millions of people watching!- That was such a rocking amazing performance Hats off!
