Hush puppies are traditionally eaten with fried seafood -- like shrimp or fish. Grits can be eaten with seafood, catfish and grits with hush puppies and slaw is really good!

Hi guys! In the south, elephant ears refers to a large, often very large ornamental plant related to the Caladium. Are you going to do part 2?

Also to be clear, elephant ears are NOT the same as funnel cake, which has more of a pancake texture than a pizza dough texture.

Graham crackers are made with whole wheat flour and brown sugar, creamed butter (softened fat), milk, honey and vanilla.

Car hops would literally jump on the running board of an old type of car and take a food order as the car was parking. Then they would hop off to take the order inside.

Hushpuppies are small balls or fingers of fried cornmeal dough. They're basically balls of cornbread, but fried instead of baked. They're served as a side in many seafood restaurants, so if you order fried fish, fried shrimp or other fried seafood during your tour of the U.S., then you'll probably run into them.

I know an "elephant ear" as a scone; you can put anything you like on it, but my favorite is chili, lettuce, grated cheddar cheese, and salsa, it's called a Navajo taco.

A hushpuppy is a dough ball made out of corn bread. Back in the 1800s in the south, plantation owners had several dogs that would hang around the cookhouse, which was a separate building from the plantation house. The reason it was a separate building was because often times, the kitchen would catch fire and burn to the ground. Thus, it was separated from the main house to spare it from burning down, as well. So, as the slave cooks were bringing food from the cookhouse to the main house, the dogs would be at their feet barking for morsels of food. So the cooks would throw these hush puppy corn balls at the dogs to shut them up. Thus, the term, hush-puppie.

I have many fond memories of the AW Drive-in and being served by the carhops. Loved the root beer floats!

Jaywalking isn’t really walking in front of cars - it’s walking across vehicle travel lanes of streets (doesn’t matter if cars are there or not) instead of using crosswalks. That is against most city ordinances and can result in a fine, but I’ve never known anyone to get more than a warning by police.

Never heard of an elephant ear, except in the garden plant variety. In Oklahoma, those fried foods in the video would be called funnel cakes, and would be frosted with powdered sugar.

Raincheck is a word also used in supermarkets. If there is an advertisement for a product on sale for a week, and the store runs out of that item, you get a written raincheck for the next time you buy that product. With the raincheck you can get it at the sale price even though that sale has ended.

A carhop comes from way back when cars had running boards. The car would pull into a drive-in and the service person would hop onto the running board and directs the driver into the parking spot.

Funnel cake or Fritters are also names for the first. And on the West Coast or at least in California an Elephant Ear is a very large leaf subtropical plant in some peoples yards.

Hush Puppies is also a shoe brand, hence the reference.
