Honestly, The Boys is the only superhero adaptation where fans practically BEG it to not be comic accurate.

Just a fun fact, Hughie in the comics is modeled after Simon Peg, and in the show Simon Peg plays Hughies dad.

Another difference is homelander started off wanting to do good

Noir started wearing his suit and sullying his reputation and he went crazy
This was so noir could kill homelander because that was his only goal in life

Butcher in the show has the moral compass of Superman compared to how he is in the comics. He’s straight up evil and just as bad if not worse than Homelander by the end of it.

One of the funniest things from the comic that never crossed over from the show is Deep doesn't have sea powers. His power is that he can fly. He's black in the books and Vaught needed a black guy with sea powers, probably for marketing reasons and he was the best they could find. Also he wears a giant heavy diving helmet at all times because of an ancient sea curse that was placed on him in his ocean living days which is obviously bullshit but he has to wear it anyway 😂

Maeve isn't a lesbian, she's bi.
They even make jokes about the bi erasure because Homelander paints her as a lesbian to fit his narrative.

The Amazon series is indeed waaaay better. The comics are kinda terrible tbh. And made by a guy who despises superheroes.

Can I quickly say Mauve isn’t a lesbian she’s bisexual but Homelander spreads that about her.

i've said it before -- although Garth Ennis has some really cool ideas, i've never been a fan of his execution. I'm so glad that Amazon tweaked some of those ideas and made them into a good series.

the deep wasnt the one who did that to starlight, it was A-train, noir, and homelander. another difference is how soldier boy is treated by homelander in the comics. also, hughie is from scottland i believe, not the USA.

A few things to add:

• James Stillwell isn't just gender-sawpped, he's actually split into two characters. Giancarlo Esposito's Stan Edgar charactarises the comic book version's cold-blooded ruthlessness. He also delivers few dialogues from the comic book in the show.

• Ryan's birth in the comics is used as an inspiration for Homelander's birth in the TV series. It is mentioned that Homelander ripped out of his surrogate mother's womb and started blasting laser which killed a couple of nurses.

• Changes to Soldier Boy deserve a separate episode.

Translucent was made as a more grounded character substitute to Jack from Jupiter.

Most of the changes in the show were better than the comics imo. The comics felt like an edgy parody by someone who hated superheroes. The characters in the show are more relatable and have more depth to them that make you invest in their story. In the comics, every superhero is basically the same bad person just with a different design

And no the new Black Noir is not a Homelander clone because they told yall its the same Black Noir actor playing him

Changes gender of Stillwell and have Homelander have mommy issue is the best change.

the comics were a hate letter to superhero genre while the show is a social commentary about celebrity worship and capitalism

Thank god they didn’t go the noir homelander clone route

The main difference is that the show is well written and compelling.

A very minor point, Maeve is bisexual. Vought just simplifies that to “lesbian” because it’s easier to sell.
