Do you wonder what that number 3 is? There is an L for low gear and a 2 for 2nd, but the 3 right next to the D for Drive? In this video, you can find out. Thank you

i love the simplicity of the youtube title being a question and the video immediately starting with the answer

I usually shift from D to 3 when i want to accelerate fast especially when overtaking with a load or uphill. I think this gear just saves as overdrive button that exists on other cars. Some cars have the 3 instead of overdrive switch. The position of this gear also shows that it can be engaged quickly even if the car is in motion with no need to slow down or stop completely

You don't need to use the brakes when going from 3 to D. If your going from 3 to 2 at a high speed, you might want to use the brakes and slow down so the RPMs don't spike up into the red-line. You should use the brakes and stop completely when going from P to R and vice-versa. Or N to D if your car is rolling backwards. Or N to R if your car is rolling forwards.

Let me break it down on most auto cars like all of them you got PRND we all know those then some will have 321 or 32L or just L all these pretty much do the same thing so D and 3 or D3 on some shifters are both driving gears and can be used at any speed but are slightly different. D is your automatic overdrive it will automatically shift gears depending on engine rpm. 3rd will shift the transmission quicker with less rpm then D but chews up your fuel. 3rd is good for keeping the shift tight so gears don’t drop as quick and when going up and down hills or windy roads the power still there too be used. 2 and one are low gears 2 can be driven in but not for high speeds cause it’s a high gear that’s not meant for high speeds. And 1 is a supper high gear that gives you lots of torque at lower speeds to get unstuck from mud or snow. Most transmission have 1 marked as L but it’s the same thing.

Every video says "hit your break before changing gears" but if you're on a long trip where you go from highway to mountain driving, you literally can't break to change gears or the car behind you will slam into you.

Dont hit breaks in a running car to move gears, (this info isn't correct) it's automatic just reach a certain speed to notice engine sound and move the shift to D from 3. trying to hit breaks when the speed is already over 25 kph or more in order to move to a higher speed gear not only destroys transmission but it doesn't even make sense

Correct, but you don't have to push your break into shift over to drive. Simply pushing this shift handle over while you're letting off of the accelerator. The transmission will act as if it was always in D. Or overdrive first second and third only be used in town or under 45 miles an hour for a extended period of time

Yall are goofy. It's a 4 speed and will always Rev high because of it. The transmission is automatic and will shift until it hits what gear the shifter is set in. It's perfectly fine to shift like a manual as long as you make sure you shift all the way to 4th gear or D. The 2011 rav4 is programmed to be able to shift at lower rpms for fuel economy, while also being able to Rev all the way to 6000 rpms for sport-like acceleration when you need it. It's not the fastest car on the top end, but it is a very zippy and powerful compact suv. I have the sport trim with the suspension tuning, wing, and spare tire delete for weight saving. Hold the traction control button for 3-5 seconds and this will help for accessing the full torque with moderately stiffer handling. It's no sports car but it's very impressive for a car that doesn't seem to Initially make that impression. Remember when it comes to shifting it's all about rpms and not burning your car out. Do not have thos car going 110 in 3rd gear obviously because 4th gear is meant for thar

So if you are in 3 and wish to change to drive, you only have to move it to the right. You don't have to push it forward into the single D. Because the 3 - D is the same as the single D. Is that correct?

So can I start in low, then up shift as I speed up just like a manual? Will that damage the transmission?
