Awesome work Kayla. I home schooled my son for 1 year plus before that, he had done 1 year of Montessori. After the two years of this approach, he entered a private Catholic school. He was 1 grade ahead with schooling compared to rest of the children of his age. The thing is that after focused pre-schooling, he did really well throughout his school years. He eventually went to college and got a Master's in Music Composition. He is now a composer and teaches at 2 local universities. You are doing a wonderful job. The good thing is that you understand the process of cognition and learning in young children, and your kids are very lucky to have you as their mom. Congratulations girl!

Thank you for sharing this! Very helpful to see a *realistic* example of how to handle children when they are getting frustrated. Clearly you are doing a great job and your kids are thriving. I have one gentle observation to consider; multiple times you mentioned a particular activity you were asking them to do was a ‘distraction’ or to ‘keep them entertained’ or ‘busy work’. While I appreciate this is probably for the viewer’s benefit to know how to structure a homeschool day where you are trying to balance independent work with one-on-one work between kids, you may want to consider how your little ones might internalize this language if you make a habit of saying these things in front of them. You don’t want them to get the message that schoolwork is to keep them busy or that mom doesn’t believe what she is teaching is actually important (obviously you don’t think that – you picked out things where they are working on actual skills!) I don’t say this to criticize, just something to consider. One of the beautiful things about homeschool is that we get to foster a love for learning, and one of the saddest things about public schools is how quickly it makes kids resentful of learning once they realize how much of their time is being wasted. Kids desire meaningful work, so I humbly recommend being mindful of how you talk about the importance of their work in front of them. Just some food for thought. Again, you are doing a great job, and I can’t wait to see more!

I'm homeschooling my 3 kids and it has been really difficult for me to even get started. I went to public school so I have been trained to think I need to sit down for 8 hours and teach my kids. I'm finding that to be totally untrue. When I first started with my 5 year old, I actually MADE him sit and do his writing. It wasn't good. I didn't realize that it should only be a few minutes a day. I didn't realize that I only needed him to do a few worksheets. Me and him had a fall out because he wouldn't hold his pencil right. Little did I know that kids his age aren't expected to hold things right. I have also been overthinking what my kids should be learning. It should be simple right? But for some reason it's not for me. I think I've been letting what the expectation is to overrule what I want to teach my kids. After watching this video and talking to my sister in law last night I'm feeling alot more confident and excited about teaching my kids. I'm going to do my best not to overwhelm myself and them. We quit homechooling for about 4 months, and now that we have finally moved, I'm ready to get back into with new ideas and I'm going to be alot more patient with him.

Anyone else going “immediately no”.
I think homeschooling is BY FAR the best thing you can do for your kids. The best kids I have met are homeschooled and I think it was so so so many benefits.
But I just do not see myself doing it. I just can’t. 😂 just wanted to put this out there in case anyone feels guilty about how amazing Kayla is at this.
All power to you and all the homeschool mamas out there! My kid is going into public school next year because I just can’t lol.
