YouTube Copyright Claims for Paid ' Royalty Free' Music! - Which provider to avoid!

UPDATE: Sadly, Art-list changed its licence model, so now you also can only use the songs as active members. Not good

Nine years ago, I made the mistake to sign-up up with Storyblocks (at the time called Audiblocks) to use their Royalty Free Music Library for my YouTube Videos. Even nine years later, this mistake still cost me headaches and time as I still receive repeated Copy Right claims for the same videos and the music used under licence many years ago. I also will tell you about my experience with a few other providers and who I currently use and recommend.

Holy Molly Stephen I got cranky with the 6 claims that I got for music I used when I first started. I am in the process of redoing a video as it is the same piece of music & every 3 or so months I get another.. Funny thing is I got permission from the artist, when I contacted them (I now have a management company) so it was out of their control. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for bringing this issue on. Even though Artlist seems to be a much better option, but according to their policy any of their music track is only valid to be used during a subscription period and will stay valid forever even if the subscription expires. But you can't use the same music track (saved on your computer) for another video unless you have a valid subscription

Thank you, this has become an even bigger problem. Recently I have had several videos demonetized due to this problem going back to the very first videos I made over 7 months ago. This has not been due to any action on my part since I have contracts that permit me to use the tracks in question and those contracts are all still active.

I had a couple of tracks from Story Block show up saying copyright.
When I clicked for more information it said that it was not a copyright strike and did not affect my channel. I did not like it saying copyright I was afraid it would cause problems later. I went SB website and tried to find out why. I discovered that my channel ID was wrong so I corrected it. The next day the copyright designation was gone

I get access to a heap of copyright 'free' music through Power Director BUT I don't use it because of the copyright claim nonsense. All I use these days is what I can get from the YouTube library. It might not be the greatest music but at least I don't get hassled every time I post a video. From my previous experience I know that YT does uphold my copyright challenges but I just don't want to continual chore of doing it.

I use both ES and Artlist and have never have an issue with either, although ES is the better platform. The only correction I'd make is that you need to have the Creator Pro licence with Artlist to be able to reuse downloaded assets after your subscription has ended. The cheaper Social Creator licence with Artlist has the same issue as ES with regard to re-use of downloaded assets in new projects if you stop your subscription.

Good video Stephan, i do not make YT videos but i can share ur frustration with this kind of issues. As for me, i can not care less with the music on the YT videos, actually i would prefer the ambient sound as most of the time the music is electronic rubbish (in my opinion). Keep up the good work.

Thanks heaps for sharing this knowledge mate. We have been researching this exact topic and haven’t known which way to go with it. You have just put some clarity to our research. Another great video
Cheers mate 👌

**ARTLIST WARNING**

I'm battling Artlist in regards to claims on several on my videos that was uploaded within my subscription period. YouTube have added the "remove song" which i have been using. I'm not going to be pushed around by their mafia methods. Is it possible Artlist have started this "quest" for subscription money because YouTube have added the remove song feature?

This is very annoying. I feel pity why these companies are so ridiculous in spite of so much of earnings

Good to know and what a hassle. I personally use YouTube library and my own music I created though out my years being in bands. Having said that I have started using some music from editing app / software I use and I'm unsure whether it's lincenced ect but I don't have even close to 1000 subscribers yet so I'm not too fussed 🤷‍♂️ I do wonder how Sam Young channel seems to use heaps of current hits ect surely he's not paying for them..

Ive just started using Artlist as well, seems pretty good. I was using YouTube audio library but I found it hard to find good music.
This is nearly the hardest thing about making a video 😂.

This has always been my fear and the reason why I avoided services like this. The YouTube audio library is good enough. Won't ever use one of the services.

I not that keen on music on a you tube I might be interested in, I say if you want some music when you roll the credits put in one of your camp fire songs you sing out in the bush it would go with the theme. I really enjoy you commentary on your trips.

It seems like a mess. Sure, there are other options out there.

I've been with story blocks for a few years and like it but probably switching to artlist. All my YouTube videos get flagged for copyrights when I use music from storyblocks and they say that shouldn't happen, well guess what! Also, story blocks doesn't respond to tech support.
