Randy Travis, born Randy Bruce Traywick, is an American country and gospel singer-songwriter, actor, and key figure in neotraditional country music. His career took off in the mid-1980s with the release of "Storms of Life," followed by numerous successful albums. Despite a decline in chart success in the mid-1990s, Travis remained influential in the genre. He has sold over 25 million records, won numerous awards, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016. Travis suffered a near-fatal stroke in 2013, which limited his singing and speaking abilities, but he has since released archival recordings and made sporadic public appearances. Additionally, Travis has acted in various film and television roles. His upbringing in North Carolina and early struggles with the law shaped his journey to musical success, which began with local talent competitions and mentorship from Mary Elizabeth "Lib" Hatcher.
