prism is my goto on linux (on anything really tbh), you can also install Controllable mod to have full built in controller support, works flawlessly with my Xbox Series controller and I'd imagine the Steam deck would have no issues either

Polymc is another, but i found out that when using a mouse, you don't scroll through your hotbar correctly for some reason.

There's another way of using the official launcher, the Flatpak version from KDE discover is kind of meh.

So this is going to require some terminal usage so get a keyboard and open konsole.

First you need to set up a password for your root (administrator) user
So type

"sudo passwd root"

(Sudo means "SuperUserDO" passwd is well password and root is administrator mode)
And set a password
Then you need to disable read only mode
So type

"sudo steamos-readonly disable"

This makes it so apps can mess with stuff in the root directory iirc.
The Minecraft launcher is an AUR (arch user repository) package so run

"sudo pacman -S yay"
This installs Yay an app that lets you install from the AUR, there's also another one called paru.
pacman is the package manager, -S mean sync basically install and then you type the name of the package.

Let it install then run

"yay -S minecraft"
Don't run yay (or paru) as sudo. otherwise it's doing what you did to install yay but for installing the Minecraft launcher.

Make sure you do a capital S when installing because the terminal is case sensitive

i get around 240 on my phone with 8 render distance on java edition. really nice to just be able to bust out a phone and plau with the homies on their pixelmon server
